5/12/24 let's put the wood to Wood and the A'ss game thread

I think we'll take this one. I can see Castillo putting up six or seven zeros and against their dogshit pitcher we can hit a couple solo homers and take the series.

And yes, with Alex Wood I was hoping that this would be a morning game for game thread title purposes.

Let's knock these bums down and fart on their heads.

Looking through the numbers, the splits tell a pretty odd story.

In Home games, the guys who have killed us aren't the new guys adjusting to a new park.

It's the guys who have been here for years that are sucking in T-Mobile:

The new guys have done fine in Seattle, but their bats disappear in Away games. Makes no sense.

Jo Adell finally hitting. If Julio could just do this he would be a 7 win player but no, he has to fall off a cliff and get brain damage in year three. We will NEVER have good things...

I went to the Angels game last night with my buddy and he came up with two on (first and third) and with two strikes on him we were saying all he has to do is make contact and it's likely a ruBOOM!

Josh Rojas perhaps showing the profile that works here...

He's very similar profile wise to the guys from the 2001 team. They don't sell out for power. They work counts and hit liners...

1.022 OPS at home.

Fortunately production comes in bunches. That being said, this lineup is awful minus Josh Rojas.

The thing is, he’ll have a few decent AB (meaning the swing choices aren’t bad) but he’ll either have bad luck, or just miss pitches he should hit, then he’ll have a few horrible AB.

My guess is his AB are at the same as they have been, but instead of hitting when he has opportunities, he’ll foul it off and eventually strike out or weak contact rather than drive the ball. I think it’s more of a timing issue than anything else.
The poster formerly known as Kingfelixk. With a new forum comes a new boardname. Julio is my guy, plus we share a birthday, so that's Culiooooo

SS quotes....     Two hits vs. a guy that has been shelled in AAA.
“Oakland played a really good defensive game,” Servais said. “They made some plays. I thought we hit a lot of balls hard. You look up at the box score, and I don’t think it’s really indicative of what we did offensively tonight. It happens on some nights. You do hit some balls hard, you can’t control it once it leaves your bat.”
“That’s all you can do,” Servais said. “You can’t control whether it goes in there and lands in the grass or not. You’ve got to hit the ball hard and have a good at-bat and we did a lot of that tonight.”
And Julio is learning from him:
“We’re having better at-bats and hitting the ball hard, I feel like that’s a really good positive,” Rodriguez said. “Obviously it doesn’t reflect that on the scoreboard, but I feel like this team is getting into a really good spot.”
And finally, Servais talks up the A's. A team with less than half our payroll. $140M vs. $64M
“Coming into the series, Oakland is much improved,” Mariners manager Scott Servais said. “They have a different ball club. They tightened up their bullpen and they’ve got guys who can put the ball in play.”
