I thought you were going to bring up his 72 WS performance
Re: Gene Tenace, here’s an oddity
I had no idea he had his 200 hr’s, let alone a ton of walks.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Mon Oct 07, 2019 9:25 pmI thought you were going to bring up his 72 WS performance

47 WAR vs. 15 for Buckner who played in the same era. I bet there wasn't a single baseball fan in the 70s and 80s that thought he was a better or more valuable player than Buckner but its not even close. That is the beauty of Sabermetrics. Enlightenment.

Re: Gene Tenace, here’s an oddity
That was after going 1-17 in the ALCS.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Mon Oct 07, 2019 11:15 pmthat 72 WS he had i think is my most vivid WS memory, guy was out of his mind
I was in Kindergarten. Too focused on girls to be paying attention.
I actually asked a girl over to my house in preschool. I was 4. My pick up line was, "do you know Winnie the Pooh is on tonight"
The rest is history.

He put himself in the spotlight once again in Game 1 of the 1972 World Series when the Athletics faced the Cincinnati Reds. He became the first player to hit home runs in his first two World Series at bats and drove in all three runs in the A's 3–2 victory. In Game 4, the A's were losing 2–1, with their only run to that point coming on Tenace's solo home run. A ninth-inning one-out rally consisting of four singles, with Tenace's the second and the rest coming from pinch hitters, won the game against Cincinnati's ace relief pitcher, Clay Carroll. He hit a three-run home run in the A's Game 5 loss. Before Game 6 of the 1972 Series, he was the target of a death threat. In Game 7, he was once again the hero, driving in two runs in a 3–2 victory for Oakland. In total, he went 8 for 23 in the Series, with 4 home runs and 9 RBI to earn the World Series Most Valuable Player Award

What’s even weirder is it was his 4th year in the league, career total of 600 and some at bats, hit a paltry .225 in 72.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Mon Oct 07, 2019 9:25 pmI thought you were going to bring up his 72 WS performance
Like the Redskins’ RB Timmie Smith who came outta nowhere in the 1986 Super Bowl win over Denver, scored 3 td’s.
