One other point is I am pretty certain Houston wins tonight but if they don't what would that say about wanting to spend 230 million on Cole(whose obviously pitching tonight) when Tampa would have ridden ex Astros player Charlie Morton and his 15 mil for three years to the next round? If Morton is not pitching the Wild card game he would have been pitching tonight and I'm not so sure Houston wins the game then.
Morton has a 2yr $30mil deal with a vesting option on a 3rd year.
A team friendly vesting option, where do I sign up?
2021 vesting option de-escalates based on health through 2020
30 DL days or less across 2019-20: $15M
31-90 DL days: $10M
91-150 days: $5M
151-200 days: $3M
200+ days: $1M
200+ DL days: $1M

Why is it that some people just assume that because the team is in a youth movement they're going to automatically make the playoffs with the young players in their first and second seasons? We just went through it with Smoak/Montero/Ackley. Nothing is promised.
Which is exactly why Gerrit Cole would not even think about coming to the Ms.
We were 71-91 when Cano signed. I think fans overestimate how much players care about go to teams that will guarantee them WS titles. Which of course no team can do. Not even the mighty Astros who are on the verge of the biggest choke job in recent memory.
It's probably the last thing they're concerned with. They want #1 money, and they want a chance to play everyday because you don't make $ sitting on the bench. #2 they want a good geographic location. Problem with Seattle is that it's not "close to home" for anybody, but I don't think it's terrible in terms of recruitment. It's a great location for recruiting Japanese players. Another thing is that if you're a superstar on the level of Cano or Cole, then any team that you go to is going to have a chance at winning because of your own contribution.

I hope the Astros complete the choke. All logic says that Cole will lock it down. But, you never know.

I agree all that other than being close to home which is almost meaningless in a Sport where have almost no days off and a max of one day off at a time. Also the majority of time isn't spent in the air so not a big deal in that regard either.
