The flip side to the Wild Card
Re: The flip side to the Wild Card
In spite of the imperfect playoff format, the MLB Post Season has been for the most part tremendous entertainment, drama, suspense, etc. ever since it was put into play. It brings the best teams right into my living room for great nights of dinner and baseball.
The Wild Card system gives more fans around the USA hope and more excitement so that outweighs the negative aspects in my mind.
At least we haven't had a sub 500 team win the WS yet...have we...?

The A's were 3 games off a 100 wins the Rays 4 games, travesty to not let those two teams take part in the playoffs.

The way I see it, if the division leaders can’t defeat a WC team in a five game series, they shouldn’t be playing for the pennant.

Exactly. Why anyone would want to see the choking Dodgers in the WS is beyond me. I think I hate them more than the Yankees as well.Happy as hell wrote: ↑Fri Oct 11, 2019 4:52 pmThe way I see it, if the division leaders can’t defeat a WC team in a five game series, they shouldn’t be playing for the pennant.

2 run lead in the 8th inning at home vs. a team that you are clearly better than based on your own regular season champion criteria.Sibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Fri Oct 11, 2019 5:29 pmChoking? Don't forget Flaherty time...DanielVogelbach wrote: ↑Fri Oct 11, 2019 3:51 amI was rooting for the Dodgers to win, but they lost. Kershaw blew it. So, it's Scherzer and Strasburg time.

From memory, the 2002 and 2003 teams with 93 wins each would have made it in.DanielVogelbach wrote: ↑Fri Oct 11, 2019 3:51 amFurthermore, it's too bad they didn't introduce the second WC earlier... the Ms would've made the post season like 3 times during their current drought. (too lazy to actually look it up)

The problem is making the other teams wait for the WC series to finish. How about a compromise and just make the WC game an 18 inning game?
