The MLB format I don't like so much is HR OR NOTHING OFFENSE with 4 to 6 pitching changes per side.
Agree completely.

The Modern Game is weird, this “Opener” Craze one more goofy aspect.

But fundamentally, as a fan from the 50’s, the advent of Free Agency was the End of the ongoing connection with “our guys.”

During those years our players were one of us, having to take jobs in the offseason, I used to see some of the Senators who lived in nearby garden apartments, pitchers Johnny Klippstein and Carl Mathias.

So even if the team was lousy, there was that Bond.

Now you see a guy who’s say, 25, after a few good years, he’s set for life!

Then, he stops hustling.

On the decline side, the Texas Rangers, who finished 78-84 (3rd in the AL West, 29 games behind the Houston Astros) saw the largest decline from 2018 on FOX Sports Southwest, coming in -35%. They barely edged out the Seattle Mariners on ROOT Sports Northwest, who finished last in the AL West with a 68-94 record. Their ratings dropped -34%; a sign that beyond having the longest playoff drought, the rebuilding year of the roster took its toll. Other significant drops included the Arizona Diamondbacks (-27%), San Francisco Giants (-22%), and 2018 World Series Champion Boston Red Sox (-22%) on NESN.
Per Forbes.
It makes sense. Root Sports stopped broadcasting baseball years ago.

Ideas being bandied about in the Rot Sports boardroom as we speak:

"We could give Sims and Blowers navy-and-teal pom-poms to lead the TV audience in cheers."
"Angie could show more clea...never mind."
"We need some new blood, maybe hire another popular Mariner from the past who's in broadcasting. How about Eric Byrnes?"
"If the team would score more points, we'd get higher ratings."
"What's a baseball?"

Per Forbes.
I was a major part of that, barely watched any Ms games this season and it wasn't because of the losing. I didn't watch many games b.c I dropped cable and thus didn't have access to Root NW. Root needs to adjust to the new streaming centric TV landscape and work a deal with a Youtube TV or Hulu or hell even Sling. Get on something. Their model is quickly becoming archaic
I am totally cool with the archaic methodology of turning on the TV and turning on Root Sports if I want to watch a game.
I am not only cool with it, it is the only one I know how to do.

:) Yeah, I must be old but life is too short to spend time figuring out how to save money on watching baseball broadcasts.

I had the grand kid in last month. He wanted to show me how to stream this and stream that. He was pushing buttons on the remote at light speed. Hulu and other stuff were flashing on the screen. I had no idea what he was doing. When he left I put it back on cable and left it. Even doing that took me 15 minutes to figure out.

Radio is still free, it makes an eminently good companion to a cocktail on the deck, and Rick Rizz is still somewhat listenable.

I heard Sims on the radio a couple of times last summer. Strange to say, he wasn’t bad at it. Better than when he’s on tv.
