Plus if the Mariners improve, then signing a free agent next year might cost a first round pick. This year since Mariners are top 10, it won't.IStillLoveTheMs wrote: ↑Thu Nov 07, 2019 11:26 pmYeah I've made this point a few times... we have little to no payroll... next year's free agent class isn't as good as this one's... sign a big name.
Even if we're not good next year, at least we have a dominant ace ready to lead the rotation when we're anticipated to be able to compete in 2021/22.
Corey Brock is officially on the Cole Train!

sure makes sense if that is how owners feel, that is, are worried about attendance and all that. And certainly Boras would be more than happy to hear from the Mariners. The deal is Boras won't negotiate with them, he doesn't negotiate. He listens to offers, he doesn't respond to them. He wants the team with the biggest hard on to bid against themselves to the point they come up with the number he is hoping for, or an even better one. If they wanted to blow him out of the water with a number then they could be in the running.
Re: Corey Brock is officially on the Cole Train!
Geez, this Brock really needs to stop bitching.

Man I actually really gained a lot of respect for the guy. So many of these sports writers want to appear as the voice of reason and the adult in the room vs. the crazy screaming irrational fan base and he seemed to just be parroting the M's propaganda party line most of the time this season. Even though it is still about .1 % chance of it happening, it was probably negative infinity chance prior to this and it is the type of reporting that we need to keep the heat on this org.

Exactly. It's exactly what they should be doing.
Waiting to add at an obvious area of need, why again?
The biggest reasons this team was bad last season will already be gone next season.
We were already better to finish the season, just need to finish clearing out the riffraff (Mallex and Dee) and plug in the functioning parts.
Add 2 good players to the already improved mix then see where we sit next season.
Adding two bums to this particular group would just be stupid.
Having a healthy Seager and Haniger will be a big boost compared to what we were counting on last season.

Of course you still have idiotic tweet like this:
Luke Arkins
@luke_arkins
In 2010, the #Mariners were a 61-win team and Felix Hernandez won the AL Cy Young award. Fair to say, the M’s weren’t relevant.
Adding Gerrit Cole, a pitcher less accomplished than the 2011 version of Felix, won’t make the M’s relevant either.
That is all.

Re: Corey Brock is officially on the Cole Train!
Could be the dumbest tweet of all time. Completely ignores the expected trajectory of the team and a front office that is willing to spend money when ready, versus one that penny pinched like crazy on studs like Kevin Millwood, Casper Wells, Blake Beaven, Hector Noesi, Brendan Ryan and Eric Thames. Or maybe they were planning the same thing? Uh Oh. Maybe the tweeter is right lol Were we waiting for our farm system to turn us into contenders and didn't spend money for that reason?D-train wrote: ↑Fri Nov 08, 2019 4:46 amOf course you still have idiotic tweet like this:

This guy had this brilliant take on the M's farm system in 2012:
No.1 farm system in baseball: Seattle Mariners
30 OF 30
They have three potential aces in the system, just like the Blue Jays and Diamondbacks do.
But the Mariners have a future All-Star catcher, a future All-Star middle infielder and a plethora of prospects who project to be, in the worst-case scenario, only serviceable major league players.
Their time atop this list won't last long, however, which is good news for Mariners fans—the vast majority of their best prospects, including 2012 first round pick Mike Zunino, figure to be playing in Seattle within the next 30 months.
Noteworthy Prospects
Nick Franklin, 2B/SS (Triple-A): 121 G, .278/.347/.453, 11 HR, 55 RBI, 12-for-16 SB
Danny Hultzen, LHP (Triple-A): 25 GS, 9-7, 3.05 ERA, 1.31 WHIP, 124 IP, 87 H, 136 K
James Paxton, LHP (Double-A): 21 GS, 9-4, 3.05 ERA, 1.41 WHIP, 106.1 IP, 96 H, 110 K
Taijuan Walker, RHP (Double-A): 25 GS, 7-10, 4.69 ERA, 1.37 WHIP, 126.2 IP, 124 H, 118 K
Mike Zunino, C (Double-A): 44 G, .360/.447/.689, 13 HR, 43 RBI, 35 R
OH GOD. WE'RE FUCKED.
