I keep seeing his name being linked to us. I also saw him being compared to Mike Leake. He will only be 29 in January and he had a decent year last season and a great season a couple years ago. Braves just declined a $12MM option on him. They saw it would take 2 x $9MM I guess I wouldn't hate this signing but again not sure I see the point other than to flip him at the deadline.

If this was the 2nd of 2 starters I could see it...he basically is a righty Marco with more wear and tear

After shaking off the Manhattan and coming down from my Ryu post 😉, I would soberly opine he’s be a more reasonable acquisition.

Eh, his average velocity on the 4 seam is down to 89.9 but he did have a 94.5 MPH peak FB in 2019. That is down from his 2010 96.8 MPH fastball peak.
Roster Resource has this as the rotation as of now:
Marco, Kik, Justus, Dunn, and Swanson

innings eater, the anti-Paxton
Is just 1 of 4 in all of baseball with 30+ starts in all of his last 7 seasons.
He’s also the youngest of those 4
He’s also the youngest of all pitchers with 30+ starts in just 5 of the past 7 seasons (17 such pitchers exist).
Has thrown 174+ innings in every one of those years (2013-19).
Exceeded a 4.00 ERA just twice in that span (he’s one of 30 starters who have done this)

I guess I would be down with getting Teheran. I am certainly in on Julio vs a 5 M for what's his name. (LeBlanc)
If we could sign Teheran for 2X 9M I would be happy. I would even do a 1 year higher average say 10 to 12M.

Julio has a 110 ERA+ and several years of 120's ERA+. If he was having a good 1st half I could see the offer bringing back a top 100 type. I also like the rotation much better like this:
Marco L
Julio R
Kikuchi L
Justus L
Dunn R

KK is our number 5 at this point.

Julio Teheran is not coming to the Mariners..... another waste of time.

I don't believe the M's should be targeting 29 year old pitchers.... right now.... we should be targeting 20-24 year old pitchers who are close...imo. The only reason I mentioned interest in Matthew Boyd is because he's a local lad.
