My initial reaction was....wtf?!!!! But Jerry must not have had any offers worth taking. All Santana would have done is slow down the rebuild process. There wasn't any room for him on the upcoming roster, plus he strikes out waaaaayyyy too much. Not to mention has horrible defense.

Still, it's hard to believe we didn't get SOMETHING for him.

Tim Beckham was also non tendered.

Of course not. Not many other teams would have either. I wonder where that leaves the salary payroll roster for 2020?

Fraley, Bishop, Smith, Lewis, and Haniger will get sorted out by Spring Training. More moves could be made by then.

yeah, since they couldn't trade him, nobody else thought he was worth the $4.4 either

So by non-tendering Beckham and Santana, does this free up 2 more roster spots on the 40-man roster?

Well they had to pay even white somehow. Funny that they are willing to 4 Million to a 23 year old who had an .830 OPS in AA when they didn't even have to but they aren't willing to pay 4 Million to a 26 year old who has a .797 career OPS in 6 years of big league service. Makes you wonder about the dr Martin stuff.

Did you see how bad Santana was defensively, probably worst outfielder in baseball. He strikes out a ton and his batting is average for a corner outfielder. Evan White started a little cold, but to hit like he did in Arkansas is pretty dang impressive. It was a calculated risk to sign him that could pay off big, and in 6 years he makes less than Felix did last season.

I don't have a problem with either of these moves.

Dipoto hasn't been wrong about one of the guys he let's go yet.

Thyago Vieiriaieia being a good example. Given away for nothing and ended up being worth it.

Still think Domingo is better than most of our other OF options, but why worry about it at this point. The extra 2 years of control on any young guy outweighs the wasted output in 2020 anyways.
