Taking Nominees for M’s Anti-Hall of Fame!!
Re: Taking Nominees for M’s Anti-Hall of Fame!!
Just about every player we've ever gotten from anaheim has sucked and just about every player [that comes to mind] from every other west coast team.
Beltre was an exception..but his time here was disappointing too.
Matt Young was an odd case because he quite often could throw a string of consecutive scoreless innings and look dominating but have an inning where he gave the game away. It could happen at any time.
Kevin Mitchell must have been the most hyped arrival...? He was fairly productive in the limited time he was healthy enough to play, but I hear he was having problems with diabetes and his feet. He was a big disappointment.
Figgins was another guy I had high hopes for and was glad the Mariners at least didn't have to play against him any more.
Ackley gets Honorable Mention because of how disappointing it was to see him go from looking like a possible Star to a 25th Man.
We've had so many disappointing catcher prospects that they need their own wing in this Anti HOF.
So much fail and we're only 400 games under .500 as a franchise after 42 years.

Hey, easy there. Sasser is one of only two former Mariners that share my birth date. He was a great Mariner.rockycola wrote: ↑Sat Aug 10, 2019 9:09 pmMackey "Yips" Sasseritis
https://entertainment.howstuffworks.com ... eball5.htmMackey Sasser was a catcher for the New York Mets when his yips started showing up. In 1989, just two years into his professional career, Sasser started having problems throwing the ball back to the pitcher. As you can imagine, a catcher who can't throw the ball back to the pitcher isn't much of a catcher at all.
Sasser fans weighed in on the problem by calling radio stations suggesting ways to cure Sasser's problems [source: Baumbach]. Unfortunately, none of them helped. Sasser played for several other teams before leaving baseball, uncured of the yips, in 1995 [source: McCarron]. As with other players, a new term was coined to describe a catcher who can't throw the ball back to the pitcher: Sasseritis. Pretty original, huh?
After leaving the major leagues, Sasser worked with a therapist to help cure his case of the yips and went on to be a baseball coach at Wallace Junior College [source: Inside the Zone]. Sasser not only beat his yips after he stopped playing professionally, but he also tries to help other players who are having similar problems. Sasser has been known to give out his phone number and he answers e-mails every week from players with the yips [source: Baumbach].
I don't blame Sasser, just why the hell was he ever signed in 1994?
Manager: Lou Piniella (49-63)
General Manager: Woody Woodward
Scouting Director: Roger Jongewaard

That's right a .325 OPS. Edgar led baseball with a .343 BA 18 points higher than Jeff's freakin OPS

I agree but he traded for Randy and Gillick signed Boone.Happy as hell wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2019 3:34 amI cannot see how Woodward belongs in the anti-HOF. He drafted Rodriquez and signed Randy Johnson as well as others (e.g., Boone) that blossomed in the Mariners golden time.

Yes, he traded for Randy, but Wikipedia claims Woodward drafted Boone, not that Wikipedia is infallible.D-train wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2019 3:39 amI agree but he traded for Randy and Gillick signed Boone.Happy as hell wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2019 3:34 amI cannot see how Woodward belongs in the anti-HOF.
