Yet the Rays manage to be second in East, and hold tight to the second wildcard spot, despite having essentially the same OPS as Mariners, and fewer runs scored.

It is amazing what pitching and defense can do for you...it is like re-inventing the wheel....just keep doing what works

Good pitching gets you somewhere, I'll give you that.

Put pitching and offense on the field against pitching and defense and see how the defense fares.

Hint: defense would lose because your good pitching is already neutralizing their offense and you need to score some runs but need offense to do it.
