Detroit trade of Verlander a disaster

Post by Hy Feiber » Tue Aug 13, 2019 6:34 pm

Daz Cameron is awful in AAA, the three others are stiffs.

Is Bill Bavasi their GM?

One of the top starters in the majors can’t get ya at least a stud in AAA or a 4th outfielder on the big club?

He is still only 22 and was great in the AFL and Good in AA. I wouldn't close the book on him just yet.

He hasn't been particularly good at all. With his experience he shouldn't be at the bottom of the barrel regardless of his age. The Tigers got fleeced.

He hit .342 with a .903 OPS in the AFL as a 21 yo vs. the top prospects in the game. That particularly good.

Perez was the centerpiece, he was injured last season, he still isn't performing?...He was considered a nice piece, don't see how you can blame the Tigers for trading for him in the first place

guess he still isn't healthy
Not everything is rosy in the Tigers' top 10. The biggest faller was Franklin Perez, previously Detroit's No. 3 prospect and No. 64 overall. Thanks to several injuries that have kept him off the mound for most of the past two seasons, Perez slipped to No. 6 for the Tigers and fell out of the top 100 altogether.

This was clearly a straight salary dump, when you trade an odds-on Hall of Famer with 2+ years left on contract, for “prospects,” not even a 4th outfielder hitting say .260, and a 5th starter, on the big roster.

What really sucks for Tiger fans is that it's not just a salary dump, it's the entire franchise taking a dump. It's going to be a long time before they can put a playoff team on the field again, and they might well end up going through a loooooong drought.

By the way, I hope The Pro doesn't peek in on this forum. He'll go into a hissy fit when he sees threads about other teams. He's over in the Seahawk Forum right now just utterly devastated that someone started a thread about the Cowboys.
