What is a [racially] diverse candidate? An individual can only be of one race.
If my four grandparents were born in China, India, Kenya and Iceland, what race would that be?
Duh you would be ChIndiaKenland.

A new one? A hybrid? I think you understood what i was getting at though, unless you thought the guy who wrote the article meant that the rule should only apply to people of mixed race.

This thread had become pretty ridiculous. If you are of mixed race you could classify as a minority. Not hard to follow. It clearly says minority candidates. Don't think it's a good idea but this "what race am I ?" Horseshit is beyond dumb.

I was talking about English usage with regard to the word "diversity". I don't believe it is correct to describe an individual as diverse. The proper usage by my understanding is with regard to groups. The word the author should have used is non-white.

And sure, a person of mixed race can be considered a minority if they so desire.

That it was ridiculous was basically my point here. If you have a rule like that, then you get into the "What race am I?" and "How black is black?" types of questions.

...and I agree that diverse is not a good adjective to use for an individual.

That is why I don't get the gender gap in wages. If I owned a business and only had to pay women 70% of what men made why wouldn't I???
Are you talking about a wage gap or an employment gap?

Of course women make the same wages as men if they are doing the same job for the same employer. Isn't that the law? They are employed less mainly due to giving birth and child-rearing. Currently in the U.S. there is a large gender gap in graduate schools in favor of women. Men, or rather boys, are being left behind.

You do, Women make more than their cohorts by an average of 8% in the USA today. And that number is growing.
What do you mean by their cohorts? Are you saying employers are paying women more to do the same work?
No, and yes. Child birthing time is one reason but there are about 20 reasons.
#1 men are more likely to take on dangerous jobs 99% of combat fatalities (97% since 1990) 94% of domestic work force fatalities men.
More likely to move for promotion
More often to ask for and accept over time
less sick leave
train based on high paying career route women dominate nursing and early education both over 90% vs. men targeting high paying stem route like engineering computer science.
Men more apt to risk failure and start a business.

Okay, but you still didn't explain what you meant by this...
