yeah, kind of like the Rooney rule, hard to figure out if it is helpful to solving the problem or the opposite. i think in general the Rooney rule has done more good than harm, but sure seems like an awkward deal for all sides at times particularly in cases where teams have a known desired target before they ever got rid of the old coach. but it was (is?) such on old boys club that something had to be done, this too perhaps.
I just can not fathom making a critical hiring decision based on race. I know it has happened and happened a lot back in the day but its absolute lunacy.
Beyond lunacy. I agree, I realize it happens, but sure don't understand why!
That is why I don't get the gender gap in wages. If I owned a business and only had to pay women 70% of what men made why wouldn't I??? I would probably hire only women even if I had to pay them 130% of what men made. :)

You do, Women make more than their cohorts by an average of 8% in the USA today. And that number is growing.

If you hire a coach that is half black, do you move up 3 spots?

It is stupid to hire anyone based on race, gender, faith or sexual orientation. The only thing you can base your decision on is idiocy. The only question you are allowed to use when you are hiring someone is.... If I hire this person will I be seen as the bigger idiot for hiring them?

If a team were to fill both positions with diverse candidates in the same year, that club could jump 16 spots -- six for the coach, 10 for the GM -- and potentially move from the top of the third round to the middle of the second round.
What is a [racially] diverse candidate? An individual can only be of one race.

Are you talking about a wage gap or an employment gap?

Of course women make the same wages as men if they are doing the same job for the same employer. Isn't that the law? They are employed less mainly due to giving birth and child-rearing. Currently in the U.S. there is a large gender gap in graduate schools in favor of women. Men, or rather boys, are being left behind.

What do you mean by their cohorts? Are you saying employers are paying women more to do the same work?

If my four grandparents were born in China, India, Kenya and Iceland, what race would that be?
