PC in January:
So Seattle is looking at the very real prospect of left tackle Duane Brown being their only returning starter on the offensive line. That’s something that head coach Pete Carroll would have liked to avoid.

“I hope we can keep our guys connected here,” Carroll said at his end-of-season press conference in January. “I don’t want to see a big change there because we made good progress.”
So either he was full of shit or he was full of shit. He cut Britt and Fluker and let Ifedi go play for the vet minimum. If they had a lie detector at his pressers the thing would blow up.

Oh that's right, they cut Fluker and Britt so they could sign a star. All good!

It could be a problem because of the talent level first and foremost. The continuity is secondary.

Exactly. But that's why if you are going to turnover your O line you need to make significant upgrades because if you don't, the lack of continuity combined with no upgrades in talent will result in a worse situation than you had before.

I think the interior is going to turn out nicely. However they completely neglected the T position. If Brown gets injured who is going to start there? RT is a shit show too.

ranked second behind the 49ers in the west for what that's worth, though i think the right up is reasonable. They are not going to change their approach to blocking which is what Thomas seems concerned about, its going to be power run and that is that. Solari is engineering the line to his specifications within the sort of offense PC wants to run.

The Seahawks also had a terrible offensive line for years. But they hired offensive line coach Mike Solari in 2018, and their run-blocking has improved dramatically since then. Solari coaches a power running game -- he was Jim Harbaugh's offensive line coach on the 49ers. Carroll must have admired Solari from a far.

Solari slowly has remade the Seahawks offensive line. This offseason, they signed center B.J. Finney, who will replace Justin Britt. Upgrade. They drafted Damien Lewis, who will replace D.J. Fluker. Another upgrade. And they signed Brandon Shell -- Art Shell's son. He will replace Germain Ifedi, one of the worst right tackles in the league the past few seasons. Big-time upgrade.

The Seahawks' offensive line still isn't what you'd call, "good," but it's improving.

Our OL has almost always been dog shit... can't be any worse than when we were starting the human turnstile at center... I also hear Germaine Ifedi is painting his house yellow in NJ he loves the color so much.

I feel pretty good about Finney and Lewis but if Iupati is injured like he always seems to be, we have issues at LG too.

Shell is a "Big time upgrade" over Ifedi? Everyone knows how I feel about Ifedi but as Pro pointed out, he only gave up 6 sacks in 1107 snaps (1 every 185 snaps) while Shell gave up 7 in only 806 (1 every 115). Not sure how that can possibly be consider a big time upgrade. Maybe he is a better run blocker but that is what Ifedi seemed to be at least average at.
