When Carson went down, my initial thought was it's Dee Jay time. Figured Hyde would fill Carson's role, and Dee Jay would fill Hyde's role. We kept hearing all during training camp how great Dee Jay looked and how impressed RW was with him so let's see what he can do. This is the perfect opportunity.

yup, he certainly doesn't seem to have much love for Homer, though his argument leaves me somewhat confused. Seems to be saying he only gets used in long yardage downs out of the shotgun so the coaching staff must not like him. I had been meaning to mention Homer seemed to be getting things going actually after that first lousy game, he is now averaging 4.9 yards a carry, in actual production that seems pretty decent

how CBSsports looks at it
Carson went down with a fractured hip Week 16 last year, making Homer the de facto No. 1 RB until the team signed Marshawn Lynch for a postseason push. Homer was quite effective in place of Carson, especially as a pass catcher, reeling in 14 of 17 passes for 88 yards over four games, including the postseason. He was a bit inconsistent on the ground, but he's been more dependable this year, recording 39 yards on eight carries (4.9 YPC). Considering Homer and Carlos Hyde both recorded 16 offensive snaps Week 3, Carroll could determine the lead back Week 4 versus the Dolphins with a "hot hand" approach, a position he's been fond of in the past. Homer has a competitive advantage with his pass-catching ability -- Hyde caught just 10 passes over 16 games in 2019 -- and his speed (4.48-second 40), but he's about 27 pounds lighter than Hyde. That could make Hyde a better goal-line back if this shapes up as a timeshare, but Homer may get a majority of the work on passing downs.

On third and long defenses will not be playing the run, thus he gets some chunks of yards against a d focused on preventing passes beyond the line to gain. He isn't terrible and we need three backs and all three will see the field Sunday.

okay, it just seems odd to hold it against him...he is doing what he is asked to do isn't he? In the last two games he has picked up 40 yards in 5 carries, or 8 yards a carry, that is pretty much a first down in a long yardage situation isn't it?

I don't see what the problem is
Homer is the returner and scat back outside zone guy and sure (give-up play guy)
But those hits he takes on returns are not hits given to a VIP guy in T-Lock
Those hits and energy he contibutes on the outsdide zone or draw play style get 13 yards on third and 20 are hits that other RBS or RW isn't taking

As far as DJ stepping up? I am all for it

Although there should be a suspension for the POs from Dallas that twisted the knee after the play was over
dirty play
