Potential Cap Casualties
I am no expert at this but looking at the potential cap hits compared to dead cap on Spotrac I think we could potentially see some big shakeup on this roster.
If I am understanding this right, here is what they can save by cutting guys loose.
Geno 13.8 Mil
Diggs 11 Mil
Lockett 8.055 Mil
Dissley 6.97 Mil
Adams 6.083 Mil
Love 5.69 Mil

Re: Potential Cap Casualties
I've gotta think John will want to shake things up a bit, not play so much for '24 as for '25.
Dissly goes for sure, Adams most likely (please God), Lock or more likely a drafted rookie replaces Geno.
Would not be shocked if Dre Jones is cut loose too, despite the cap hit, if Williams can be signed long-term. I think Big Cat's signing was an indicator of give-up on Jones.

Re: Potential Cap Casualties
I'd like to keep Lockett and Love. On the Geno front, wasn't Lock's deal a one year? There is not promise he is back. As a matter of fact, I would be very curious of why he would come back, if Geno isn't gone. Sure, sign him and let him know he is taking over for Geno, but if they keep Geno and Lock returns, that has to tell you a lot about what Drew thinks of his ability to be a starter in this league. A lot of places he could go to compete for the #1 job, and who knows? With Geno's #1 fan out as HC? Maybe he would get that chance here?
Re: Potential Cap Casualties
Cut Geno and use the cap savings in FA for D Linemen. Sign Lock to a similar deal as he had this season and promise him open competition with the new Drafted QB.

Re: Potential Cap Casualties
Geno 13.8 Mil - this is an easy yes if they draft a QB. Lock is just as good and way cheaper as the stop gap or back up.Captain 97 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 12, 2024 5:58 pmIf I am understanding this right, here is what they can save by cutting guys loose.
Diggs 11 Mil - Diggs is mediocre. Who replaces him? He might restructure.
Lockett 8.055 Mil - That is not near enough savings to let go of a legend.
Dissley 6.97 Mil - He would restructure. Not sure they would still want him anyway.
Adams 6.083 Mil - yes.
Love 5.69 Mil - no.
Re: Potential Cap Casualties
I think Dissly was 100% a Carroll guy. So, limited I just can't see anyone really wants him at that cost. Horrible contract.trharder wrote: ↑Sat Jan 13, 2024 3:35 amGeno 13.8 Mil - this is an easy yes if they draft a QB. Over the cap Post June Cuts Have savings of:
Geno 22.5
Adams 16.5
Diggs 11
Will 7
Mone 5.9
Bellore 2.8
Dee 1.47
Dremont 11.5
Can get more with Tyler and DK restructure.
Re: Potential Cap Casualties
Crazy that Mone is a bigger cap hit than Reed. Flipping horrid. Mone (I know he was hurt), but he wasn't really ever that impactful. Crazy over paid.

Top Potential Cap Casualties
1. TE Will Dissly - $10.1 Million
Like the 49ers, the Seattle Seahawks are facing a tricky cap situation. Releasing longtime tight end Will Dissly could help the situation substantially, though.
Dissley is set to carry a cap hit of $10.1 million. He did nothing to justify that price point in 2023, catching just 17 passes for 172 yards and one touchdown in 16 appearances. With Noah Fant headed to free agency, the Seahawks don't have a ton of depth at the position, but Dissly should be considered expendable at his current salary.
Releasing Dissly would save $7 million off the 2023 cap.
2. S Quandre Diggs - $21.3 Million
Safety Quandre Diggs is a less likely cut candidate, as he started all 17 games this past season. However, his cap hit is massive, and his play dipped quite a bit during the season.
Diggs allowed an opposing passer rating of 103.9 in coverage, his worst mark of the past six seasons. He's also entering the final year of his contract and will turn 31 later this month.
Releasing Diggs would generate a dead-cap hit of $10.3 million, but it would also save $11 million in cap space.
3. QB Geno Smith - $31.2 Million
Quarterback Geno Smith is the least likely of this group to be released, but it could happen. Seattle signed him to a three-year, $75 million deal after the 2022 season. Building around the 33-year-old didn't put Seattle back in the postseason, and Smith's play declined in every important metric.
After posting a 100.9 passer rating in 2022, he posted a 92.1 rating this past season.
While still a capable starter, Smith may not be as valued by the next Seahawks head coach. General manager John Schneider also built some team security into Smith's contract, which could be utilized this offseason.
If Seattle does part with Smith, they can do so with a post-June 1 designation and save $22.5 million in cap space. That would generate reasonable dead-cap hits of $8.7 million in both 2024 and 2025. The big question is whether the new regime believes it can find an obvious upgrade this offseason.
Re: Potential Cap Casualties
I don't believe we have any Line Backers on the roster right now--except Bellore.
Re: Potential Cap Casualties
Regarding Dissly and the other TE's, all spent a inordinate amount of time blocking --to patch-up a dilapidated offensive line.
