*Another recruit!* J’Raan Brooks transferring to UW from USC

@JonRothstein - 12:05 PM - Jun 7, 201 - Source: USC transfer J'Raan Brooks has committed to Washington.

Report: Former Garfield High star J’Raan Brooks leaving USC and transferring to Washington

By Percy Allen - Seattle Times staff reporter - June 7, 2019 at 1:21 pm Updated June 7, 2019 at 9:25 pm

Former Garfield High standout J’Raan Brooks, who flirted with the Huskies before signing with USC last year, is transferring to Washington, per a report from Jon Rothstein at CBS Sports. The 20-year-old Brooks is a native of Newport, R.I., and returning to Seattle makes sense considering Washington will likely need help on the front line in 2020-21. Conceivably, Brooks would compete for a starting spot as a redshirt sophomore in 2020 with Hameir Wright, Bryan Penn-Johnson and Nate Roberts.

Brooks, a 6-foot-9, 220-pound freshman forward, would likely have to sit out the 2019-20 season and would have three years of eligibility remaining. He could also apply for a waiver to play immediately next season.

In 28 games last season, Brooks averaged 2.0 points, 1.3 rebounds and 8.2 minutes with the Trojans. He shot 44.2 percent from the field and 35.3 percent (6 of 17) on three-pointers.

At Garfield, Brooks averaged 15.0 points and 11 rebounds as a senior during the 2017-18 season. He was voted first-team All-Metro and Co-Defensive Player of the Year, as well as being named to the Class 3A First Team.

Brooks was ranked No. 76 nationally by Rivals, No. 83 by 247 Sports and No. 84 on ESPN’s top 100 list in 2018.

this is really good - bring some longevity to the recent/current success with both Stewart and McDaniels likely to move on. Be nice to land Beauchamp too, but probably less likely with him now transferring to Arizona prep school as just reported.

The guy seems like a bit of a flake. Committed to St.Johns then backed off that then leaves USC after one season. Also, he didn't really look that great on the court either. I am just looking him as bench depth at this point.

Not ever committed anywhere that i heard of, though UW is still on his short list. Maybe you're thinking of the incoming 2 guard RaeQuan Battle? both highly rated, Beauchamp slightly higher.

he had some pretty good upperclass talent ahead of him at SC that limited his PT (Boatwright and Vukevich). and a lot of scorers on that squad, so not much opportunity to stand out. from what i read Brooks is versatile, skilled and good fundamentally. not a freak athlete living above the rim, but with a decent mid-range game and good mobility for a big guy, to stretch the floor. worked pretty good for Noah Dickerson.

If you have the talent you will find the floor. He basically had the same stats as Sam Timmons.
