Good lord that is worse than the M's celebrating 1995 every season. They aren't going to play a game in almost 2 years and they are already celebrating. lolJAWA wrote: ↑Thu Dec 05, 2019 2:41 am...Seattle was awarded the 32nd NHL franchise: https://twitter.com/NHLSeattle_/status/ ... 2369275904

Well, in their defense, Sonics fans keep remembering the day they left back in 2008. Nearly 11.5 years ago and still no return of them in sight
You can damn well bet that once they announce their name, they'll celebrate it one year later

Three years from being awarded a franchise to opening day. The Seahawks started two years after Seattle was awarded an NFL franchise, and the SuperSonics, Pilots and Mariners all started one year after franchises were awarded. I guess on the bright side that gives Ron Francis plenty of time to put together a playoff team.
By the way, I just discovered this about the Pilots: while the Expos and Padres were originally slated to start play in 1969, the Pilots and Royals weren't even supposed to start play until 1971. Some Missouri senator threw a fit (Kansas City already had a major league ready ballpark from their Athletic days), and they ended up starting two years early. Must admit that it did work out really well for Kansas City, not so much for Seattle.
