Yes, fixed fortifications have failed throughout history as technology always overcame them. And now even digital and electronic technology gets hacked and overcome as well.

No, walls do work, but you have to FINISH THEM, not leave the left end hanging open. Thing is, you can't have a guard every 20 feet, so you use infrared cameras and drones to supplement the wall. Walls work if you connect them together, not leave gaping holes a few hundred feet down the road. Sheesh, what a maroon!
