I go to a state school undergrad is a bit over 10K for tuition alone and not including for summer term.in
2009 it was $7600/ year,
2000 $ 3650
1990 $ 1950
1980 $ 686

A bit of a different world if you look back at it.
Yeah I graduated in 1990. I guess that have to pay all those Elizabeth Warren type Professors 400k a year these days.
The money goes straight to the top.. not to the teachers, not to the athletes. If you do a deep dive into the coffers of these institutions it will blow your mind. Every dollar coming in is tax free. They invest it. The returns are tax free. Donations are tax deductions on one end and tax free on the other. These institutions are completely infiltrated by government and religion. They are massive money sucking black holes. Every parent is taught that their goal is to get their little Johnny accepted by one of these magical dream institutions. I feel like most people would be far better off just taking the tuition money and investing it into stocks or a small business. What I'm seeing now is a route where you end up $50k in debt making $50k per year and you're considered a success story.

If middle class Americans simply stopped sending their kids to school, what would happen? I think that's the answer. We don't need the socialist free college for all right now.... as a taxpayer, I don't want to pay for someone's $400 textbook.

Honestly, I think college is great. Taking classes like English and History is fun and enriches the person. But, you can get the same sh!t from your local public library for Free ninety-nine. It's not the same as spending 4 years with the lush manicured landscapes and beautiful architecture everywhere. But, these debts...

The cost of school is a dilemma, and I'm afraid one answer is simply for middle class Americans to say they're gonna skip it. Major corporations should be able to fill their junior level positions with high school graduates. We need to stamp out the whole University right of passage mindset. Universities should be for rich people. Technical schools and trade schools should probably be the goal for working class kids. You get one book for $50 bucks and in 8 weeks we'll have you making some money!

We should probably abolish the NCAA as well and replace it with junior pro leagues that have age limits. The student athlete has become a completely warped thing, especially with football.

Yeah its amazing that nobody ever suggests cost controls with Universities like they do with Pharma companies. Harvard has a $40+ billion endowment. The act like it is impossible for them to be less expensive so tax payers have to fix everything to free tuition and debt forgiveness.
The left is tied to the University system. I read that 2/3 of all PHDs are Democrats. They want the money going into the Universities. They want every parent going into massive debt to send their little darlings to the dream schools.

I believe the political leaders of the right also mostly come from the University system, but in terms of philosophy and constituency it's less tied to academia and sending your kid to 4 years of liberal arts. I mentioned in my previous post, I think going off to school with other young kids and studying liberal arts topics is awesome. But from an ROI standpoint and this debt dilemma.... I think we just need to reconsider how much of a priority it is to spend this money on school. If you want to be a doctor or lawyer, I don't see any other path... But, for most other jobs, you can just start working and hustling.

Some on the left also say we need to provide university education, because that's the modern day basic education.... Well, I don't necessarily disagree with offering some amount of optional free education on top of the mandatory K-12. But, at the same time, how dumb is the average high school graduate? 8 hours per day from 13-18 is some major amount of time. Some kids to come out of HS with skills in physics, calculus, and advanced biology. I think yeah, send those kids on. But, Jonny "C Average" should not be getting anything more paid for if he was just cruising the entire time K-12. Furthermore, the C average students that currently go onto University often don't come out of the 4 years with a bunch of amazing skills... they generally just get a 2.0 GPA and a piece of paper that cost them an ungodly amount of cash. (this is case by case, some HS students are really smart but don't apply themselves... they can sometimes turn it around at the University)

The other aspect is simply what degree you choose. You will probably get some ROI from your schooling if you learn stuff related to our economy. However, many of the degrees just feed back into the education system. I think the English degree is a good example. Sure, English will improve your communication skills. But, you can get that just from reading books. There are some inmates serving life that have unbelievable vocabularies. The degree is just to get you the accreditation, so that you can teach it. You study to get the right to teach the next generation the same thing you learned. I think part of that is to keep filling our heads with meaningless stuff like how to spell all of the words in our language and not understanding where money comes from.

Depends who's reading them!
I'm sharing my perspective. From my view, you're naïve, not smart, and idolize Trump. You're probably also a very nice person. Now, go have a Coke and a smile!
So you call someone not smart and naive and then admit you are ignorant to the fact that Democrats demonize Trump when it has been on every network and news website 24/7 for the past 1000 days????
What I'm saying is that Gramdma Lynn is very naïve, idolizes Trump, and generally offers very little substance to any discussion. I'm no expert on Trump or any other elected politician. My perception is 100% that the Democrats and the left media are completely consumed with attacking Trump. I bet if I went to CNN right now there would be some sort of anti Trump article. What specifically set me off was the bait and switch nature of the OP. Killing the ISIS leader was just an ice breaker to jump off into Dems vs. Trump. Taking the topic of the day and immediately pivoting to Dems vs. Trump. Super lame. That's the exact same thing the left does, only they do it to denigrate him where as Grandma does it to prop him up... it's the same obsessiveness just with the opposite lens. It's the divisive rhetoric in full bloom.

Oh Daniel, can't I have someone to
agree with? Yes, even Trump!
Is this why you think I'm "naive"?
Naive about what? Thinking the
president is a pretty darn good
person....not completely. Who
is? Obviously I'm not, by your
standards.
And I don't "contribute" to this
website? Sorry, but sometimes
it's nice to write like your talking
to someone without statistics.
There's enough people on here
that do that just fine! And I
appreciate their views.
If you don't like what I say, then
please don't bother to read my
comments.
I read yours because I'm trying
to hear what you have to say,
excluding about me.
Maybe if you live as long as me,
you'll understand. Yes, I'm still
learning.

We appreciate and value your contributions here Grandma Lynn! I would take that fact that Daniel might not as a compliment! Obviously he wasn't taught to respect his elders. Perhaps he was raised by wolves so we should just give him credit for learning to type after that unconventional upbringing. :)

I don't learn anything from your posts, because they never contain any substance. All you ever post is fluff. Nice to know that you're ageist, though. Have a wonderful day. Hopefully there will me some good Trump media for you to consume!

HA! "Fluff". That's a good word
to describe my writings!
I call it opinions. And we are
free to use them here.
Go pick on someone who's your
size. I'll do just fine Daniel.
Wait until you have some years
on you. Maybe then you'll
understand. Old people aren't
idiots. But sometimes I wonder
about you. Haven't you got
better things to do?

You do realize how ageist you're being, right? Perhaps you would have a leg to stand on if you ever once made a post with some substance. This is a perfect example of fluff. And pick on someone my own size? You created this thread with your instant pivot away from the topic. Get over yourself Grandma!
