The epic 2112 came out of nowhere to save Rush's musical career, and in 1981 they followed up that album with the masterpiece Moving Pictures that launched Rush as an undeniable musical force and an international sensation. Everyone knows the Side A hits like Tom Sawyer, Limelight, Red Barchetta and YYZ. On side two you'll find another hidden gem, a song so good it could lead off most albums, but on Moving Pictures it was relegated to the B-side to give way to some heavy hitters. Neil Pearts messaging rings even more true today than it did in 1981.

Lines like "Unstable Condition; A symptom of Life." and "Everybody got to deviate from the norm" "An ounce of perception, a pound of obscure" are even more poignant today. This was on the radio this morning and I had to pull over to listen to it uninterrupted. A surprisingly powerful song full of Peart's mature, advanced and magical lyricism, drum playing, and the entire band completely on brand. if you remember this one from your youth - relive it. it ages well. My God, the talent on display is still jaw dropping four decades later.

damn, thanks for sharing that. such a profound band. for any of the book readers out there, after Peart's wife and daughter died and he left the band, we motorcycled around several continents for a few years to try and get his head straight - and ended up writing books about his travels, because, of course he did. By the way - my niece goes to meadowdale! I told her to check out the DT Memorial Cafeteria - she asked how you died, I said you moved to boston and are surrounded by boston sports fans so, you're alive, but dead inside.

Thanks for posting the music and the interview. Not sure why, but I've never gotten into Rush. Definitely will look a these, and I'm intrigued by the evolution of Neil Peart's drumming. I reminder that there is much more out there to look into, and how many stories there are of talented and wonderful people. Thanks again.
