George Joseph Kirby

I think most know by now that Kirby has the best control in the history of the Mariners org. Including his college stats in 2019 he had 132 Ks and 6 walks. Compare that to Sheffield who had 133 Ks and 59 walks in AAA and AA this past season. Despite that I have been hearing the hope is that Kirby will be a solid #3.

Well after seeing this yesterday, I don't think there is any reason he can't be a 2.

Let’s start from the top. Here are the Mariners’ hardest throwers, as well as where they’d rank among the best in Major League Baseball, according to Statcast.

4-Seam Fastball
Velocity:
Gerson Bautista - 98.1 mph - 99th percentile
Connor Sadzeck - 96.5 mph - 91st percentile
Jake Haberer - 95.6 mph - 82nd percentile
Art Warren - 95.4 mph - 81st percentile
George Kiby - 95.1 mph - 77th percentile
I also think Gilbert can be an Ace. Obviously this rotation is unlikely given that you never have everyone work out but this is a nice core that can be supplemented with about $100M of available payroll in 2021.

Gilbert
Kirby
Marco
Dunn
Scheff/KK

Thanks for this DT.

I wanna know who we're taking at 6!

I'm in on Jared Kelley and Nick Bitkowski so far....

Also, to comment on you're post. Where would you put Sheffield's ceiling?

And now that its 2020, does Dipoto go after Paxton on the offseason? I know you say no, but I'd be on board with it.

Man I was just looking at future payroll and KK is going to make about $15M this season. That is looking like a MAJOR F up at this point.

Not necessarily. Transitioning to the Major League baseball organization can sometimes take awhile. I want to see what Kikuchi can do with a season under his belt.

I have feeling that you're gonna see a completely different pitcher. Don't forget, that we traded away Narvaez. Thst can only help our pitching staff too.

But I thought JD was extolling Narvaez, seems like only yesterday?

Oh well, just another of his trades that accomplished nothing.

That Competitive balance pick just keeps getting better and better. Now that Houston forfeited their picks.
