He had 60.4 bWAR to be exact but got only 2.5% of the HOF vote his only year.

Griffey had 77.7 fWAR to Edmonds 64.5, pretty sad to see Edmonds get no love.

Must be this whole white supremacy thing we keep hearing about.

While Griffey had to cover more ground, he also had about a full second longer to get there as evidence by the delays in the hitter's swings. So the question is what is more difficult? I would argue that it is easier to go farther with more time because you have more ability to gauge and time your jump. Thus I vote for KLew's on this one comparison.
And wasn't the outfield fence deeper back then? Who would that favor. Griffey running and the ball taking longer to reach that far?

I'd say it was a toss up, but Griffey is still a far better all-around player.

Lewis needs to play several hundred more games before we even begin to start making comparisons but the very early small sample size comparisons are encouraging.

Lewis has put up 2.3 WAR in 65 games. That would equate to 94 WAR IF he maintained that for the 2671 games Griffey played.

Griffey ended up with 78 WAR.

Please don't respond pointing out the absurdity of projecting off a pinhead like that. I am fully aware.

I realize this poll is about just KGJ vs KL..but who could forget Mike Trout up to his waist at the top of the wall in DCF to rob Jesus Montero...?
I saw a 40 year old Willie Mays and a young Bobby bonds meeting at full speed at the top rail of the fence in RCF at Candlestick to rob Bobby Tolan of the Cincy Reds. It looked like Mays put his foot somewhere on Bond's torso to gain enough altitude to bring that potential HR back into the yard. We had no instant replay..just 1 shot to take it all in and then us fans just looked at each other in disbelief.

I made a couple catches very similar to the one Buhner made in Boston....when I played in Little League with the 4 foot tall plywood fence.! Both came against the same guy that I eventually became life long friends with. We're both 65 years old now..and he's never quite forgiven me for it... 8-)
