Willie had nothing on the catch by Buhner.

I made a couple catches very similar to the one Buhner made in Boston....when I played in Little League with the 4 foot tall plywood fence.! Both came against the same guy that I eventually became life long friends with. We're both 65 years old now..and he's never quite forgiven me for it... 8-)
I think you and I both played LL ball in the 'deadball' era. :D

We played 16 game seasons and both years I was in this league there was a few guys leading the league with 8 or 9 HRs, and of course this was with wood bats. You could be 11 or 12 in this league. Our top sluggers in this age group mostly fizzled out by the time we were playing HS ball.

It was 53 years ago......HR totals tend to rise over time. lol

Actually when I played LL in Lynnwood for Pacific LL in 1979 we had a team with a few monsters on it. 200 ft fences but I think one kid did hit like 8-9 in ~20 games.

Griffey had more extension. I also think that that play is easier for a right hander making the back hand because he can brace against the fence with his throwing arm while a lefty has to just go right into the fence with his ribs.
I would disagree. When I was running into the fence I liked to have my throwing hand free so I could brace/feel for it. Robbing a HomeRun on a back hand means you have to jump higher because you have to reach more since your glove hand is further from the wall when you jump.

While Griffey had to cover more ground, he also had about a full second longer to get there as evidence by the delays in the hitter's swings. So the question is what is more difficult? I would argue that it is easier to go farther with more time because you have more ability to gauge and time your jump. Thus I vote for KLew's on this one comparison.
One thing everyone is forgetting, in old Tiger Stadium the right field upper deck overhung the field. So not only did Jr. have to get there, he was not sure if the ball was going to clear the upper deck. So in reality, he only had a second to recognize that the ball cleared the upper deck and jump to get the ball. I think Jr.'s was by far the more difficult catch.

We are are comparing it to the more famous Yankee stadium catch. I and Griffey agree the Tigers stadium catch was the best of the three.

This is the comparison.
