I sincerely believe that is why he has shied away from HS kids since. As for first two round worst picks I would say Josh Stowers who I actually like at the time. Only because he turned into Shed.Juliooooo wrote: ↑Fri Nov 20, 2020 11:40 pmSo is Rizzo right now the worst pick of the Dipoto era to date? It may end up being White, but a 2nd rounder on a HS 3B that doesn't have any elite traits at 500 K above slot value... I don't think you can completely write the kid off yet, but seems like a weird pick for Dipoto.

Actually it is a good thing as other teams won't consider them for a full year on their MLB roster.

The pick wasn't bad, he actually has tools. The trade on the other hand... But Dipoto has so many trades he's bound to have a few head scratchers.D-train wrote: ↑Fri Nov 20, 2020 11:47 pmI sincerely believe that is why he has shied away from HS kids since. I think there will be some of both. Teams may take a chance on players and hide them on their roster. Thats what happened with Torrens. Picked up in the Rule 5, played only a few games and was essentially the 3rd catcher, then sent back to the minors. If a team is not planning on competing, they can afford to take a chance on a talented kid that hasn't fully developed. They lose nothing.

Thanksgiving in a few days and not a single move yet. Hopefully just the calm before the storm.Juliooooo wrote: ↑Sat Nov 21, 2020 12:15 amThe pick wasn't bad, he actually has tools. And you are right, Padres who sucked at the time kept him up for the entire 2017 season despite a .446 OPS.December 8, 2016: Drafted by the Cincinnati Reds from the New York Yankees in the 2016 rule 5 draft.
December 8, 2016: Traded by the Cincinnati Reds to the San Diego Padres for a player to be named later. The San Diego Padres sent Josh VanMeter (December 9, 2016) to the Cincinnati Reds to complete the trade.

I doubt it. He's not a .161 hitter. A .200 yes, but last year was a fluke.D-train wrote: ↑Sat Nov 21, 2020 1:15 pmIs Zunino done?

i AGREE, and I don't think the M's should be making decisions this year with an eye toward competing this year. And I'd use this year to stash a high potential under developed youngster from another team in the rule 5 draft.Someone they can use as a runner, defensive replacement occasionally, or in mop up games. Someone young.... another key potentially valuable position player.... for example, I'd be interested in taking this kid off the Cardinals roster..Juliooooo wrote: ↑Sat Nov 21, 2020 12:18 amI think there will be some of both. .Ivan Herrera– 20 years old; highest level- Palm Beach (A-advanced)
Signed in 2016, Herrera is currently the Cardinals’ number four prospect. A fantastic young hitter, Herrera has become solid enough defensively to stick behind the plate. It might not be too much longer before he is knocking on the door and challenging Andrew Knizer as the heir to Yadier Molina.
