RIP Gus Williams
Mr. Baseball and The Wizard within 24 hours. Possibly the greatest sight as a Seattle sports fan was on 6/1/79 when the game clock hit 0:00 and Gus Williams threw the ball to the rafters in celebration of the Sonics' one NBA championship. He was a hell of a player. I remember as a kid we got him aft...

Best commercial ever, and I refuse to argue about this. His comic delivery is perfect. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2A_QyOIfEAk
Re: Playoffs
There are a lot of people out there with egg on their faces right now. Remember when they didn't need a playoff because there aren't that many teams worthy of a shot? The top four were Oregon, Georgia, Texas and Penn State. Three of them are out and two of them lost their first game. If Ohio State ...

Re: Vegas/Seattle
I'm not following them. What happened to the original group of youngsters they fielded? They went about the expansion draft differently than Vegas, it was supposed to get them a core group of young players to build around I thought. This should be their prime, doesn't sound like it was particularly...

Re: So it begins, The official Hot Stove League Thread 2024-25 Offseason
I wonder how "cash considerations" works. Within the week do they name a dollar amount and we say yea or nay? And I wonder if maybe the Oriholes might just say "You know what, this one's on the house, guys". He sounds like the winner of this year's GM white elephant gift exchange. DiPoto should be ...

Re: Ichiro HOF Poll
Columnist Jayson Stark recently broke down his HOF ballot selections. #1? Ichiro. He writes: Stay tuned — because first, I think we have to talk about the one true legend on this ballot … Ichiro (first year on ballot) I asked this question in a column in November. I’ll ask it again. What reason cou...

Re: Likely outcome for the rest of the offseason
Zips is pretty optimistic about Robles and the mariners in general. Seemed to me it wasn't much impressed with them in the past Which speaks to the fairly unpredictable nature of the game. Guys get good. Guys get bad. As fallible human beings we tend to want to ascribe to someone the talents and av...

Re: So it begins, The official Hot Stove League Thread 2024-25 Offseason
I've heard good things about his brother Mike. Oh dang, dude! You went there! How often do you think he gets that joke in the locker rooms? My orgo TA in college was Harold Dick. He insisted on going with Harold. He must have had some mean-assed parents. So with the "12 million dollars" we have lef...

Re: So it begins, The official Hot Stove League Thread 2024-25 Offseason
Another daring move that will inch us closer to a World Series: "Welcome back, Blake Hunt 🙌 We have acquired C Blake Hunt from the Orioles in exchange for cash considerations." A backup, backup catcher who we flipped to the O's a year ago. Over the past four years, he has a combined batting line of...

Re: Likely outcome for the rest of the offseason
I mostly agree with you. I doubt many of the kids on the team today will stay with the club. Management has shown no reason to remain. The best rotation in the business and they show no need to improve the offense. The kid pitchers are playing for their own stats knowing at best they will have a .5...
