About an 8…… :D they are our closest neighbours on the mainland Europe after all. Cheap booze used to be a thing from there and if push came to shove, we have stood shoulder-to-shoulder in the past and would do again.

Germany 10 as you know.

We are used to it. :(

Our famous footy anthem includes the line “30 years of hurt” which has now gone up to 56 years.

Well, I have only one team left in my pool. Thankfully, it's Argentina. Morocco? Croatia? Who woulda thunk? France? God, I hope not! Ever since the Zidane fiasco, I've hated the French. Golden Boot, my Aunt Fanny Assa! He should have been tossed from the tournament for headbutting an opponent!

The final was probably the best in quality, drama and storylines in the history of the competition. Extraordinary.

Lionel Messi, possibly the GOAT claims his first World Cup title in his final game for his country. Mbappe becomes only the second player to score a hattrick in a World Cup final matching England's Geoff Hurst from 1966. Yet Mbappe ends on the losing team.

Despite Argentina being a rival of my homeland, we don't deny that Messi is so worthy of his World Cup winners medal. Congratulations to Argentina - thoroughly deserved.

And see you in 2026 - USA, Canada and Mexico to host next time. I will aim to time my annual trip over there to co-incide.

Against Croatia, Messi was "attacked" by three Croatian players. He looked like a magician as he was able to beat all three, turning them inside out, to take a shot on goal. Never seen anything like it. Truly a great player. Mbappe was whining that he was as good, or better, than both Messi and Rinaldo. Unfortunately, he'll be back in four years as France has a young team. Argentina has quite a few young players as well and they gained experience in this World Cup. The Argentine Coach played his young, inexperienced players and used his older players as reserves. Screw France!

What? You enjoyed a soccer match?

Oh, and hard to believe but Messi is 35, not 34 as Mr. Polanco posted. I remember him when he made his debut at 17. Has it been 18 years? Wow!

I hoped that one day you would get presented with a advertisement for what the world sees in football and why it's the universal game. I also know this won't mean you will sign up for New England Revolution season tickets in the MLS  but another generation of young uns will have been inspired by what they have seen at this World Cup, not least in Africa with Morocco's exploits.

The US must capitalise on its hosting duties next time and start to compete at the highest level. As we said earlier in the thread there is definitely potential there.
