Dipoto didn't need more money because the asshole owners believed that every single prospect was going to succeed at the MLB level! Don't you know that ALL prospects become ALL STARS?
don't think they believe it, they just want to see it before opening the bank
Ah, I see now! Planned failure. Makes perfect sense... if you are a bean counter and not involved at all in the creation of a successful baseball organization!

I like Jedi. De Poet.
Yes, I like Jerry Dipoto and the knick names I have made for him.

I hope they extend him and he stays. He's had some hits and misses and I believe most people know he got handed Z's weak-ass core and augmented with some super expensive vets and asked can you make us a winner?

Yes, I want a high-paying job. Thanks.

He did what he could in budget and if Felix had been a Randy Johnson type, we might have seen a deep run at a WS.
In his 1st year 86 wins but Felix put up a 150 innings of 106 ERA+ and the M's had a 106 OPS+ and a 102 ERA+
Miley put up a 80 ERA+ 2 years later a 160

The 2017 club went for 89 wins but the offense was a 102 OPS+ but had
Seager shit the bed with a 86 OPS+
Zunino 85
Cano suspension

And the pitching BP was Good SP was ok just missed having an Ace 99 ERA+
Felix  73 OPS+

Anyhow:

I think Jedi can add to the core

KIK and Gilbert are currently at about a 120 ERA+
FLexen and Dunn at about a 110 ERA+
Marco will probably we OK the rest of the year. 5.67 innings 3 runs.

Get an Ace on top of that. I have read where Dipoto like multi year remaining guys and that is hard to acquire for an acceptable price.

German Marquez is signed through 2023 he is 26 and has a 24 option. He has been good 118 ERA+
2021 7.8mm
2022 11.3mm
2023 15.3mm
2024 1)6mm (OPTION CLUB)
German M. is not an Ace his best year by E$RA+ 137 was last year and that was 60 games. He has a 127 this year and 118 career suggests proven #2 but at 26 maybe he takes a leap getting out of Coors. I think this is a decent probability and why he is listed here.
I would offer a Grienke / Verlander level

Verlander was a 2.5 year of control and was a legit Ace no question. He was not motivated on a shitty Detroit club and had a 117 ERA+ at time of trade coming off of 131 and 140 ERA+ two previous. The cost was pathetic which is why I wanted the M's to get him then .
   Franklin Perez (minors), Daz Cameron and Jake Rogers. The Detroit Tigers sent Juan Ramirez (minors) (October 13, 2017) to the Houston Astros to complete the trade.
#6 Daz Cameron was the Astros #6 prospect and was a 24 year old not putting up big numbers 35 mlb games this year and last -0.4 WAR (yes Mike Cameron's son)

#9 Perez Astros prospect He was once a top 100 prospect
#23 Jake Rogers a 3rd round pick 0.4 WAR career but 1 WAR and a 106 OPS+ as a catcher
Perez
That was the Verlander package 3 good but not great prospects. The Tigers paid Houston 16 million to offset salary and included a prospect

The Astro Package for Grienke was very similar 4 of the Astros non top 5 prospects and a butt load of D-Backs $ helping to pay for their Ace going to help HOuston.

Something like: Justus former top 100 1 year from a 119 ERA+ year, M's #9 #64 pick Connor Phillups, then 1 or 2 of mlb.com after # 10. If they don't covet Justus sub in Williamson # 8

I really can't stress enough that the M's should be full-on protect mode of JK, JRod, Kirby, Hancock, Marte, Cal. The M's now have a top-ranked farm with quality guys like one of my favorites is SS Patrick Frick in 2 years .305 .436 .838 20 stolen base/162 pace and only 4 HR but 26 doubles. This awesome player is not even in the M's top 30. Like Cal last year I would consider a player like this traded only for top-of-the-line types.

Edit to my previous post:

It would seem that Kik, Gilbert, and Flexen are at around a 120 ERA+. That makes 3 #2's at the least and now we come over the top with an ace.

I heard them mention the 5 man on the broadcast today, that's great news.

Glad to see that foolishness come to an end tomorrow.

"Let's use a whole game to use the relievers for extended outings when we already worry about overuse!" Flippin geniuses.

Marco and Justus should be out. If Marco is not a starter he is worthless. If Justus can go max effort I could see him being an asset in the pen.

I could also see Marco being included in a package as well.

And I would like to trade for Nelson Cruz as well but again it would be 1 or 2 non top 6 prospects. And really there are a lot of top 100 types that are not currently in the top 100.
