Vogelblah should quit while he's ahead. The book is out on him and he's now a .200 hitter.
Red hot then ice cold VBach
last 2 weeks .913 OPS
last week .443 OPS

The ups and downs of a season.

It's completely normal.

Anyone that wants to dump a guy during the .443 won't reap the rewards of the .913.

A player won't carry the team every single week, but calling for their heads every time they have a down week (which happens all season long) is.. stupid. (I don't mean you).

All about cumulative stats.

that is the essence of the thing, trying to maintain consistency, or at least limiting slumps, what makes Trout so remarkable really is his lack of slumps. Normally all you can ask for is a guy that can get hot enough to carry a team for a couple of weeks or so every so often, makes me think of Raul Ibanez, that guy have his slumps but when he got hot he could put a team on his back with the best of them...course some here probably think Raul sucked i guess

I only saw Raul when he played for the Ms at 41, so yes I think he sucked ;) actually, he wasn't that bad that year for 41

looking over his career...he had that end of career production, never have a memory for this stuff unless i go look...
He hit a career-high 34 dingers at 37 years old with the Phillies. He hit 19 in 384 at-bats with the Yankees in 2012. He hit more long balls after the age of 30 than Harmon Killebrew, Frank Thomas and Carl Yastrzemski did.

Good points, but only the specialest of the special are going to be consistent week in and out.

The point is keeping your guys with the highest cumulative in the game because the only way they can get that cumulative number is to accumulate at bats. Intentionally limiting the bad exposure will also limit the good a guy can do.

That's why you find the best overall players you can and you leave them in the ballgames.

Machado turns a base hit into an out by running up the line like Robinson Cano...... love watching those 300 million dollar ball players when they are on the other team.........
I said the Padres will never win a thing with him as their #1 piece. So far it is looking that way.
I think they have a fair enough plan. Tatis is the consensus #1 prospect. He is 20.6 years old hitting .326 .387 .607 .994 as a SS with 14 SBs and 4.1 WAR in 79 games. Tatis is their headliner "Griffey-ARod" type. They have a decent outfield as is. They have Machado who should have several more prime years, along with fellow vet bats Eric Hosmer, and placeholder Ian Kinsler. Pitching is young and they have SP #2, #2, #4,#4,#4 They need to replace a #4 with an Ace. They have Kirby Yates closer with a 1.18 ERA 361 ERA+ and just need to fill out their BP with set-up guys behind him.
The bad:
Hosmer is owed big money 2019 to 2025 123M
Myers 67.5 2020-2022
They only owe 98 M next year so despite Myers, Machado, and Hosmer making 20 Million+ salaries they can go buy an Ace and or trade for 1 and buy another if they choose to use the farm.
But they have a deep system with 7 top 100s and several others that could be.
