“They made a significant offer that kind of blew everybody else out of the water,” Judge said. The offer was for more than $400 million. Two other sources briefed on the matter said it was in the range of $415 million, over a term that would have been at least 12 years. Judge was taken aback. The Padres’ proposed guarantee was nearly $100 million higher than the Yankees’.

Who said the mariners weren't cheap? Why does justice need to appease fans? It's funny how whenever you bring up a direct quote of the person in question the rebuttal is they are lying. If you don't want to believe justice is still a Yankee because he likes being a Yankee that is certainly up to you

Great piece by Gustafson here highlighting the horrible success rate in the development of hitters. This could have been rectified to a large extent by signing a big FA bat or two but they refused so they go through season with their offensive pants down looking like completely incompetent clowns.

This right here is all you need to know about this org. Thinks they have to get "CREATIVE" to create unforgettable experiences as opposed to just winning fucking baseball games. We are fucked until these owners are dead. Full stop.

Amazing what the radio show that doesn't host the Jerry DiPoto show is willing to say.

You know, maybe this gaffe has a silver lining. Maybe all if this attention on their failed rebuild, together with reports about the team being the most profitable in baseball is enough to compel ownership to actually spend a little.
Honestly, I think Jerry’s soon-to-be-famous Babe Ruth statement was something they all said behind closed doors, and he just sort of blurted it out during an interview. There’s no takebacksies, and he’s stuck going on record as saying this team needs more than just a single trade deadline acquisition. He even went on to pass the blame on to the players saying their lack of success at the plate was cultural - that the team had a game plan and the players weren’t sticking to it. This sounds a lot like a coaching problem; if you tell your players to do one thing and they all do the opposite, then yeah, the players are at fault. But so are the coaches - how long do you think Lou Pinella would put up with this shit?
I think it would be hilarious if the best selling Mariners jersey in the coming weeks was “Not Babe Ruth”.

Babe Ruth comes out of retirement, and back from the grave, to call Jerry’s bluff.

9/$360 is a way better deal than 12/$415. Better AAV and he doesn't have to worry about sitting there when he's 42 pissing off fans because he can barely walk to first.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Fri Jun 09, 2023 7:58 amWho said the mariners weren't cheap? Miguel Cabrera's options vested and he's owed $60 million over the next 2x seasons where he'll be 41 and 42. Last 2x seasons he's been worth about a .600 OPS, 70 OPS+, and -2.0 WAR... and he's only getting worse.

Wouldn't it be logical to question the approach they are asking the players to take at the plate when virtually every single one of them is underperforming? And the main one that isn't went outside the organization to seek help with his own. That would seem to suggest that they are screwing up their own players mentally by asking them to do something that either doesn't work when properly executed or doesn't fit their skillsets.D-train wrote: ↑Fri Jun 09, 2023 12:25 pmGreat piece by Gustafson here highlighting the horrible success rate in the development of hitters.
