I didn't say you did, I used that example. I'm not saying he doesn't deserve some of the blame....I just have a hard time blaming the best hitter and starting pitcher we have when there is so much shit around them. You start nine hitters. Again, swap out J Rod for Griffey in his prime in September. I feel we still miss the playoffs. This is a terribly flawed lineup, and placing blame on these two instead of pointing it right at an organization that refuses to do all it can to help? I don't agree with it.

Yes, but what if he had 3 homeruns in the game, and hit the 4th ball to the wall but the CFer stole a home run?Michael K. wrote: ↑Mon Oct 09, 2023 8:24 pmI didn't say you did, I used that example. WHAT THEN?
WHAT THEN?
What if he got hit by a 100 mph pitch in his previous AB?
WHAT THEN?
WHAT THEN?
I don't care about your piss poor example, that's not what I was saying, not even close.

Wow, whatever you say dude.
Re: The mysterious Clutch Gene
Baseball is a game of hot and cold streaks. Hell, right after “The Double,” which was the most clutch moment in Mariner history, Edgar went something like 2/25 the next round. Doubt anyone ever said it was Edgar’s fault we didn’t win the WS that year…
Re: The mysterious Clutch Gene
The playoffs are a different animal. They're facing the best teams, not the Oakland A's in the last 2 weeks of this season and the series is shorter than 2 weeks. Additionally in 95 there were only 4 teams that qualified in each league to be in the postseason, not this watered down stuff.
It was totally different, it was their first mlb postseason - ever. Doubt people were complaining about anything....like that they could've won the WS if they had spent more on payroll due to the payroll vs. wins tendencies.

They actually made a significant move for Andy Benes at the deadline. He somehow went 7-2 with a 5.86 ERA.

Not to mention Vince Coleman and norm Charlton
Re: The mysterious Clutch Gene
Post Deadline deal for Coleman. Never forget he hit a GS the night of my 10 year HS reunion. I chose to watch the game instead of go to it.
August 15, 1995: Traded by the Kansas City Royals to the Seattle Mariners for a player to be named later. The Seattle Mariners sent Jim Converse (August 18, 1995) to the Kansas City Royals to complete the trade.

Charlton was released by the Phillies on July 10th with a 7+ ERA. Put up a 1.51 ERA for us.

Yeah, the Phillies then picked up a burned out Sid Fernandez off of waivers and was lights out for them
