Re: World Series thread
Hopefully this damn series ends Halloween night and we can fire up the Hot Stove and hope Jerry and Stanton don't piss on the coals...

Game 2 sees Adrián Beltré throwing out the first pitch to Hall of Famer Fergie Jenkins. Beltré is eligible for the HoF ballot next year - no thanks to his Seattle years as you would all be aware. Jenkins pitched 267 complete games and that obviously hampered his ability to have a really long career. Oh no, wait he played for 18 years and only once started less than 28 games in a season after he became a starter in his second season. Averaged 250 innings per season. Looks really well for 80 years old.
National anthem: 18-year-old Pearle Peterson, 2023 Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s National Youth Talent Performer
Betting tip: noticed that your betting companies are now heavily promoting Same Game Parlay - called Bet Builder over here. Great fun to combine a few outcomes together and have a lower stake bet but with high odds if they all come through.

Gamble responsibly of course.

Re: World Series thread
Beltre should and will be a 1st ballot HOFer joining Griffey, Edgar as former Mariner HOFers to never win it all. Ichiro will follow in a couple seasons....

Do these Diamondbacks remind anybody of the 2019 Washington Nationals that won it all?mostonmike wrote: ↑Sat Oct 28, 2023 9:44 pmGame 2 sees Adrián Beltré throwing out the first pitch to Hall of Famer Fergie Jenkins. Is my recollection correct that Washington was a wildcard team then too?
AZ plays small ball, the way the game should be played, unlike most major league “softball teams,” who just swing for the fences.
Their clutch hitting with two outs is impressive, and the successful bunting is reminiscent of an unfortunately bygone era.
The fact that they barely made the playoffs is pretty strange.
Tonight’s game is like a flailing giant’s being tormented by a swarm of mosquitos!

Game 3: Jordin Sparks with the Anthem. T.H.E. Game 1 songstress is still leading the renditions. Randy Johnson first pitch. Are they going through the back catalogue of everyone who has played for the Mariners at some point just to take the piss?
