Frank Howard
Re: Frank Howard
I went to one game in sicks stadium against the White Sox.
Mostly I remember no neck Williams having a good game for the Sox.
The pilots were pretty bad!!
Not much has changed. We really should change the mariners name to the 54 Percenters!

I also grew up in Spokane and saw a lot of dodgers go through their triple A team but barely remember hearing about Howard who played there in 59 and 60. (I was 9-10 years old. I don't remember seeing him play though.
I do remember seeing satchel Paige pitch there for Salt Lake City when he was 59 years old. My dad was all kinds of excited about that. Turns out I was too late on. Lol.

Re: Frank Howard
Notorious for hitting the Senators last ever Homerun and the Rangers first.ddraig wrote: ↑Tue Oct 31, 2023 2:48 pmAnyone out there old enough to remember Frank Howard? He dies yesterday at the age of 87. The guy was one of the ultimate power hitters of his day and won a World Series Ring with the Dodgers in 1963. I was 11 that year and in Fifth Grade. The guy played in the 50's, 60's, and 70's. At 6'7", he really was a "towering figure." My guess is that the Rangers will honor his passing sometime during the Series. He played for them in 1972 before retiring with Detroit in 1973.
RIP, Frank.
"Washington Monument!"
They are honoring him down here in TX.

As a native Washingtonian, I must say old Hondo was one of my favorite Senators.ddraig wrote: ↑Tue Oct 31, 2023 2:48 pmAnyone out there old enough to remember Frank Howard? RIP, Frank.
We acquired him from the Dodgers along with 3b Ken McMullen, pitchers Pete Richert and Phil Ortega, and 1b Dick Nen, gave up stud lefty Claude Osteen and if John Kennedy.
One of our rare solid trades.
Frank was always gracious in signing our autographs, after we dutifully waited for the players after the games.
His prodigious homers were something to behold, moon shots.
We didn’t have much of a team back then, but those guys were our guys!
Loved those Senators, part of my childhood I’ll always treasure!
Especially Chuck Cottier’s belting 2 homers off of Whitey Ford in the first game of a TwiNight doubleheader against the Yanks in DC Stadium!
You all remember TwiNight doubleheaders??
Another relic of a bygone era.
