Seattle is the 12th largest media market. The Tampa St. Pete area is the the 13th largest. Despite having a FAR lower payroll and using the identical 2016-2023 players with 100+ PA the Mariners worst 24 players put up -7.9 WAR and the Rays 24 worst put up -2.8.

Here is a fun one. Astros worst 24 players with 100+ PAs accounted for +4.1 WAR. 12 WAR MORE than Jerry's worst 24.

And the critical factor is that most other GM's that underperformed like Dipoto haven't made it into their 9th year with the team.

Same argument as when we complain that Dipoto has spent like $30M per WAR on all of his failures. The apologists say, "Well other teams have their failures also..."

The difference of course is the other underperformers likely all got fired, meanwhile Dipoto got a promotion and is going into his 9th season.
