You know when my dad took us on vacations he would always find a way to work in a brewery tour. Olympia, etc. /also wineries, distillery, etc. Is this a visit to a grow or what is the context?

Here you go with stupid WAR projections again. Tell me, did Fangraphs project -0.1 fWAR for Urias in '23 over 53 games? No. Ok. Then I don't care. Also, Polanco hung 1.5 fWAR and 2.0 bWAR in just 80 games last season... so that projection seems ridiculously stupid.harmony wrote: ↑Tue Dec 26, 2023 8:31 pmFanGraphs projects 30-year-old Jorge Polanco with a 2024 WAR of 2.5 in 141 games while projecting 26-year-old Luis Urias with a 2024 WAR of 1.8 in 102 games. That works out to .0177 WAR per game for Polanco and .0176 per game for Urias. FanGraphs projects 2024 strikeout rates of 22.6 percent for Polanco and 22.3 percent for Urias.Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Tue Dec 26, 2023 5:17 pmI think Kepler + Polanco is just about the best thing they could do now considering financial restraints.
Polanco would thankfully move Urias off 3B and into more of a utility role.
1. JP Crawford SS
2. Jorge Polanco 3B
3. Julio Rodriguez CF
4. Mitch Garver DH

Not amazing, but you've just reduced your strikeouts by nearly 300
Also likely saves you both Woo and Miller.
Polanco has a negative 19.8 UZR/150 in 180 career innings at third base (including a negative 8.7 in 103 innings this year) while Urias has a UZR/150 of 2.1 in 1,319.1 career innings at third base (including a UZR/150 of 18.6 in 128 innings this year).
Over the past two seasons Injuries have limited Polanco to 184 games and Urias to 171 games.
Polanco has a 2024 salary of $10.5 million (plus a $750,000 buyout of a $12 million club option for 2025) while Luis Urias is projected to earn a 2024 salary of $4.7 million in his second-to-last arbitration season.
Polanco has a ceiling of 3.5 to 4 fWAR during his best seasons and a floor of around 2 fWAR in his worst seasons. He's been a 118, 119, 124 wRC+ hitter over the past 3 seasons and that's literal gold on a team as shitty offensively as the M's. That hitting is easily worth the $10.5 and $12 million given the state of the league.

Jorge Polanco might be a better option in a standard fantasy league that counts hitting stats to the exclusion of other real-life contributions.
Projections certainly come with a margin of error. Did Tim Anderson outperform J.P. Crawford this year?

That's a lot of coin for a 33 year old who is a part-ime player.
It's not dumpster diving but it is somewhat close.
I guess Jerry got jazzed watching the mlb playoffs???

No. And it would have been silly to project him doing so.harmony wrote: ↑Wed Dec 27, 2023 6:55 pmThank you for the feedback.Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Wed Dec 27, 2023 4:53 pmHere you go with stupid WAR projections again. Just as it's silly to shake your head at Polanco and laud Urias. One is a borderline All Star who hangs 3-4 WAR seasons. The other is someone most people are surprised the M's traded for as he was a likely non tender w. the Red Sox.
As for ignoring reality because hitting stats are "fantasy league." I'd much, much, much rather have a quality hitter in Polanco at 3B than a quality defender at 3B w. Geno on a team lacking offense. And remember, Geno was written off as a defender because of a horrid 2021 where the Reds forced him to play SS. Most were not excited by his defensive prowess when he was traded for and Perry Hill helped transform him into one of the better defensive 3B's in the league.
