There's an old saying, "You can never have too much pitching."

And here's a new saying, "A championship isn't delivered by Amazon, you go out and take that m*****f*****"." Add Snell to our pitching staff and if he's at least close to his Cy Young form we're probably the favorites in the AL.

But we're not going to, in part because Ray didn't work out, but mainly because this franchise meekly paws at even the idea of getting the trophy.

The Mariners aren't going to pay the one-year salary he would want.
I agree. Likely not.

But apparently he turned down a 5 or 6 year deal with the Yanks. He wants a Bellinger-esque deal. Maybe 3 years with incentives and opt outs. The M's can, and likely should do that.

So yeah - they likely aren't in for a 1 year deal, and definitely not a 6 year deal. But I think they could pull off a Goldilocks deal that made everyone happy.

Will they? Nope.
I don't know that it's something they should do. Even on a relative bargain contract, it would still be a lot of money for a marginal rotation upgrade and a player that mostly only goes 5 1/3 innings per start.
Marginal Upgrade? Really?

If you think that is a marginal upgrade you understand zero about baseball.

I agree - you can't have too much pitching. Snell gives us more than just depth - when healthy he is one of the best in the game (2 time Cy Young - come on,...how often do guys like that want to come to Seattle to pitch?) Like Captain97 said, can you imagine facing Kirby, Castillo and Snell and a 3 game series??? And Brash, Santos and Munoz on the back end? Holy shitballs.

The key, of course, is that this only applies if he can stay healthy and gives you 160+ innings.

So I still believe a 3 year deal with mutual options worth $30MM or so per year is a wise investment. It's how you structure the deal that makes him worth the risk, I guess.

Blake's grandfather, Vern Raan, who lives in my complex just told one of my golfing buddies that he has told the M's he will do a one year deal in order to play for his home town team. If true don't look a gift horse in the mouth Jerry.
It would be great if you could ask Vern directly. Not doubting you buddy but the horse's mouth is always the best source. :)

I just happened to run into Vern on the putting green this afternoon. The news is kind of what we’ve come to expect. The M’s refuse to pony up even for a year. Looks like Blake will sign with the Giants as he has a good relationship with Melvin. Stanton should be reaching for his wallet after watching Woo get lit up
