Re: Former Mariners tracker
Seems JK started his annual death spiral a bit earlier this season. lol OPS just dipped under .800. Guessing it will be around my .657 target in a couple weeks....

We get a close view next Monday. Wonder if he gets a standing ovation. Lol

Yeah, this after Winker batting .199 for Milwaukee's last year. Do you think there is any Brewer fan board full of recriminations about how bad Brewers coaching and management are, with the evidence being that Winker did so poorly with them and (small sample size obviously) is thriving after leaving?Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Wed Apr 17, 2024 8:16 amDon't look now, but Jesse Winker is hitting .354/.483/.521/1.004 with the Nationals. 17 hits in 48 ABs... 9 walks, 10 k's in 60 PA's.
Lovely.

Re: Former Mariners tracker
In other former Mariners news, I was watching the Jays game last night. They’re looking like they’re starting to click.
Yusei Kikuchi tossed 6 innings, and apart from a few hiccups, he looked really good. Why wasn’t he this good when he played for us? He’s 2-1 on the season with 33 SOs and a 2.38 ERA.

Kikuchi was always the incessant tinkerer, what I suspect kelenic of. It's early, but if he's finally settled into a delivery he might fulfill his talent
But even more unpredictable than his outings were Kikuchi’s reactions to them. He tinkered with his mechanics, arm slot and release point incessantly. He often would overreact to a bad outing or even a bad warm-up session while obsessing for velocity that was always there. He’d listen to any and every suggestion, trying to implement them all. By the end, he was an overloaded amalgamation of other people’s input with minimal memory of what made him successful enough to come to MLB.
“All players are going to be looking for the edge,” Servais said. “You’re looking to get just a little incrementally better. You don’t ever want to stop that. But changing full blown mechanics and arm actions and things like that, I certainly hope he doesn’t go down that path again. He’s not going to stop making adjustments. You just don’t want the overhaul. That’s what we want to stay away from.”

Re: Former Mariners tracker
Servais' comments seem odd. If he thinks Kikuchi was overreacting to bad outings and listening to too many suggestions why didn't he do something about it? Isn't that a manager's role?

Do what about it? He can't control who Kikuchi wants to listen to, if he wants to change his arm angle
