Interesting, Whites contract contact covers more than 2024. So it's costing them $14.5 mil against the cap in 2024.
The amount of salary they took on was $29 mil. I accounted for the mariners and pirates kicking in probably $9 mil

Re: Kelenic trade
Berkshire Hathaway bought $8 mil worth of Braves stock
Re: Kelenic trade
His May has been something. Today is the 22nd and he has only had 36 PAs. 2 singles, 2 HRs and 0 walks.

So you are say Atlanta found a way for him to help them. Some place cleaning the bench and stay away from field addition by subtraction
Re: Kelenic trade
109 PAs vs. RHPs and 3 vs. LHPs. So even with almost zero exposure to LHPs he isn't a viable MLB hitter.

Re: Kelenic trade
I would think that platooning someone usually means they have a limited skill set, and/or significant deficiencies. I know Jerry is all hot to trot about platoons - perhaps to "keep guys fresh". But it seems like you get the best guys you can to fill a position, and then have bench players when they need a day off.
The Braves did do an about face on Kelenic. They had said at the start of the season that he would be a full time starter. Then they dialed him back to a platoon role. And then they PH guys late in the game when Kelenic has to face lefty relievers.
I guess the best way to learn how to hit left handed pitching is to not do it.
Re: Kelenic trade
I think the most important component of hitting is timing. And it is very difficult to maintain it if you aren't playing nearly every game. The handedness advantage is more than negated by sitting on the bench several times a game and losing your timing...

Re: Kelenic trade
In some ways I think platooning a player can be damaging if you're not a player who is used to sitting on the bench. I imagine it can disrupt rhythm getting so few at bats. It's not like they ever platooned him in the minors...
Kelenic seemed to play his best when he was playing everyday for the M's.
Last night DMO hit 2x homers off a righty and Raley hit a homer off a lefty. They were platooning these guys all year until JP got hurt and Haniger started seeing less time.

I agree, wholeheartedly. Platoons are dumb. Bench players are better if a guy needs a day off.Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Wed May 22, 2024 4:01 pmIn some ways I think platooning a player can be damaging if you're not a player who is used to sitting on the bench. But if you read this, Kelenic swears he loves the platoon.

Then again, maybe he's just toeing the party line, or putting a good spin on a shit deal.
