5/24 GT vs Nationals
Re: 5/24 GT vs Nationals
Julio Rodriguez the guy that hit like 57 HRs in the HR Derby has a .306 SLG%
Just defies any sort of logical explanation. Could have won a billion dollars on a $20 bet if you correctly predicted that. Just insane.

Is it just possible that his success at the Home Run derbies had an impact on his hitting approach during games?

Yeah, but it's not unique to Jrod, happens all the time. The mystery of hitting a baseball. Since its being compared to Judge i went and looked at that. Can't find anything where they mentioned timing. It was more the vague stuff about slumps.
Here's Judge
"I think just not missing the ball," Judge said with a chuckle. "When I'm getting a pitch to hit, trying to just get the barrel on it, and it's working right now."

That's very strong evidence that MLB playoffs mean very little. You could take the worst team in the regular season and at some point during the season they took a series against one of the division champions, probably multiple times. Best of 5 and best of 7 isn't good enough to overcome the randomness of baseball.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Sat May 25, 2024 11:35 amTeams that won a WS with less than a ninety win season
Since 1995, 27 seasons the team with the best regular season record has won the WS six times2021 Atlanta Braves (88 wins)
2014 San Francisco Giants (88 wins)
2006 St. Louis Cardinals (83 wins)
2000 New York Yankees (87 wins)
1987 Minnesota Twins (85 wins)

Re: 5/24 GT vs Nationals
In general that is true but i'm suggesting the possibility that in Julio's case it may not be. Hasn't it been observed that he seems to be trying to hit home runs in games in situations where he should just be trying to make contact or fighting off pitches to stay alive? Those are things successful hitters do.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Sat May 25, 2024 3:17 pmHome run derbies affecting batting is an urban legendSibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Sat May 25, 2024 3:11 pmIs it just possible that his success at the Home Run derbies had an impact on his hitting approach during games?

And I don’t know what days would support this, but it seems like he doesn’t have great plate discipline. He seems to swing a lot at first pitch offerings, it seems to flail at pitches, seemingly off-balance. And I have checked, but what’s his base on balls situation? Does he draw many walks?Sibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Sat May 25, 2024 3:34 pmIn general that is true but i'm suggesting the possibility that in Julio's case it may not be. His walk rate this season is 1 for every 18 PAs which is pretty bad. In 2022 it was 1 in 14 and in 2023 it was 1 in 15.

Teams will hold home run derbies at the end of batting practice, that's where ichiros legend was born. Being challenged to hit home runs isn't limited to the home run derbySibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Sat May 25, 2024 3:34 pmIn general that is true but i'm suggesting the possibility that in Julio's case it may not be. Re: 5/24 GT vs Nationals
Well, it appears that for Julio the baseball season is just an extended home run derby. That's what his approach would seem to indicate, and why i suspect there are mental issues in play with him.
