Mostly I don't get why people get so mad about sportscasters anyway. They constantly chatter all game, they'll miss stuff, say names wrong, make inane points like your example.

I could ask the same of you, I suppose? All our phones, laptops and that default to English (UK) and I guess yours will default to English (US) so neither of us will get told we are mis-spelling words.
