Dipoto doesn't have to agree but if I'm a GM that's interested in Robert. I am picking up the phone and asking Getz who he'd be interested in return. That to me is where negotiations would begin
I doubt Jerry wants him badly enough to pick up the phone first. Guessing he is weary of injury prone hackers. Robert has a 42% K rate and a 5% walk rate and has played 13 of 67 games this season. And for those reasons, I'm out.

Passan is a dope. How do these guys get paid to talk and write about baseball:
“I don’t know that right now is necessarily the time that the White Sox are compelled to move Luis Robert,” Passan said. “He’s a guy who I think very easily could go this winter as well. So Chris Getz, the general manager, has the opportunity to hold out for a king’s ransom, and rightfully so. If he feels like he’s going to get more over this winter for Luis Robert, what’s the sense of dealing him right now?”
Why in the F would he get MORE for him in the off season when he will have 2-3 months LESS control AND the market would be flooded with all the FAs and guys that weren't available at the deadline??
“When the supply is so limited, you can sit there and bemoan all the things that a guy doesn’t do, but the reality is Luis Robert – when he is healthy – is one of the best center fielders in baseball,” Passan said. “He’s a guy who in his only full or near full season last year, hit almost 40 home runs and played good defense in center field. Yeah, he has warts, he does not walk, he strikes out too much – sounds like a Mariner.”
It's a funny line but why would you want a guy that is only going to exacerbate your On Base and K problems??

I would think there would be more teams involved in the bidding over the off season. The more control involved the more likely they get moved over off season. Players with expiring contacts get moved at the deadline

With expanded playoffs at least 20 teams are still in the playoff hunt at the AS break. Do you think more than that will be in on him in the off season?

btw there is a guy named Juan Soto that will be an FA this off season among several other healthier FA OFers.

I'm saying that's the thinking, couple of months of control doesn't trump off season roster construction. They aren't going to get less for him over the winter, particularly with a player that hasn't had a chance to perform. There's no particular pressure to move him at the deadline

RIP Jerry West

I literally had a guy saying that the Yanks would trade Soto at the deadline because they needed a better hitting catcher. Had to be a troll right?
