What will Jerry’s spin be?

Post by AZOldDawg » Mon Jul 08, 2024 4:08 pm

Take your best shot. “Listen guys. We knew this season would be a bit of an anomaly as our hands were somewhat tied this off season leaving us with limited resources. I’m just not ready to deal our blue chip prospects out of panic mode. Let’s see what pans out the second half as are hitters are due to improve. We are probably a year or two away anyway.”

In a year or two (or 3) what will our pitching staff look like?

The way I see it, most of the starting pitching talent we have will be asking for large paydays, and that will take away from the 'bats' we need.

btw I just noticed that Castillo only has 1.2 bWAR. For reference DMo has 1.6 bWAR

Control through:

Castillo 2027
Gilbert 2027
Kirby 2028
Miller 2029
Woo 2029

In three years they all will be Arb eligible though and make very significant dollars and there won't be enough for big bats like there is now.

It's also more difficult for pitchers to accumulate WAR because they have limited opportunity.

He's tied 30th in baseball in fWAR. So he's a back end no. 1, probable no. 2 as there's 30 teams in baseball.

Maybe we should have them try hitting! LOL They can’t do any worse than what we have now.

Also, why didn’t Servais try to move the runners over with no outs in the 8th? Especially with batters hitting below the Mendoza line. When things aren’t working, they need to try something different. The results can’t be any worse.

It is about the same. In a five game span a SP will face 25-30 hitters. A position player will have about 20 PAs and about 10-15 chances in the field.
