Mariners win! We're HEROES!!!
Man, what a debut for Wilson! Yeah, the team did everything it could to lose for 7 innings, but it only takes one pitcher throwing dogshit and Melvin somehow left his guy in to give up 6 straight hits.
Castillo...career high in home runs given up and 3 bombs tonight. He's good, but he's not the guy we traded for. Why do starting pitchers come to Seattle and don't become as better as hitters get worse?
Lil' Leo with the game-winner!

I am sure you guy noticed how Leo just put his bat on the ball and flicked a line drive to CF. Didn't try to do too much because he didn't have to and now he is hitting .288.

I did notice.
Is that the Edgar affect or is that typical for him?
Every player should be shortening it up when they have 2 strikes and trying to make contact...not crush it with every swing.
And the BUNT....even though it didn't work, it was the proper call. I bet everyone is going to practice bunting today, and some for the first time since being a Mariner.
Let the small ball begin.

I thought the batting approach (philosophy) was coming from Dipoto, not Servais.

These guys could EASILY cut the strikeouts in half if they did this. Unfortunately, this is one of those "That's just how it's done" things.Walla Walla Dawg II wrote: ↑Sat Aug 24, 2024 3:30 pmI did notice.

Small ball works in T Mobile and nullifies the ball park effect. I like how we scored four runs with singles. Extra basemhits are nice but they really put the pressure on the pitcher with all the base runners. Nice to see all of the walks as well, though still too many strike outs.
Re: Game thread 8/23/24 Where there's a Wilson there's a way
Exactly. I've said before, I disagree with the argument that you have to swing hard BECAUSE the pitchers are throwing so hard. If someone throws at 100 mph off a brick wall, the ball rebounds further than it would if you throw at 70 mph. So hold the bat with strength and have a controlled swing so you maximize the chance of making contact.

Don’t get me started on small ball. Would have 6-10 more wins and be right in it. Old school rules

Then we need players that can work within the 'that's how it's done' system, because it seems to be broken for us.DavidGee24 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 24, 2024 4:49 pmThese guys could EASILY cut the strikeouts in half if they did this. Yesssss!
But today's game bashes bunters as sissies, preferring to tout such useless stats like launch angle and bat velocity.
How bout trying something radical, like having two straight batters laying down a bunt?
This would get into the heads of the defense, keep em off guard.
The whole game is now so calcified, so programmed in advance, making it incredibly dull.
From "openers" in the first inning, to 6th inning specialists and beyond, it takes the fun out of the game.
If you lose, while being creative, and making it exciting, and Unpredictable, it's still entertainment.
And as for this Insane rule putting a guy on second in the 10th inning, that makes any victory in extra innings Illegitimate.
