I don't know what firing DiPoto would accomplish.

Nothing. Stanton would just hire another puppet.

Firing Servais, and the way that went down coupled with the hiring of Dan Wilson and NOT assigning the "Interim" tag? Was actually pretty shrewd of Dipotta, and another move that makes me think he is a scumbag. If you make Wilson the interim, in the offseason there is no expectation...they are going to go through an actual hiring process. One that Dan could be a part of, but it wouldn't be his job. Now? If they were to fire Dipshit, and bring in someone in his role, what ever the fuck it is, GM, President of Baseball bullshit, Jackoff, whatever his role is? If the new guy wants a new manager? Which he is more than likely going to want his own guy...they'd have to fire a Mariner legend, and one that only had a short while to perform the job.

The guy is scum, IMO, I've hated him for some time, basically since the Graveman trade when he hid in his office like the sissy that he is, and asked us for patience, asked his players for patience, then did jackshit else! But the topper was when that blowhard told me, a fan since the 70s, that I should be THANKING him for the fact that this team has made the playoffs one time since 2001, and before that one time had the longest playoff draught in North American sports! That douche should get down on his hands and knees and thank every single Mariner fan that there even still ARE Mariner fans. Yet he wanted us to thank his slimy ass!?

Not going to say making Dan the ACTING Manager and not the INTERIM Manager wasn't a shrewd move....but it was done with only his own ass in mind. Hate that dude.

Except the ownership group were the ones that said, "oops that money we promised for years isn't actually there."

Jerry just did the best he could with the hand he was dealt.

Ownership could have given him more but in no way shape or form has he done the best with the money he has.

Ownership didn't make him Give Evan White a Guarenteed Major League Contract before he was even out of AA
Ownership didn't make him Give a long term deal to Marco Gonzalez.
Ownership didn't make him trade for Adam Frazier and Jessee Winker.
Ownership didn't make him give Julio a lifetime contract after 3 Months of good baseball.
Ownership didn't make him Sign Robby Ray and trade him for Mitch Hanniger.
Ownership didn't make him spend 108 Million on Castillo who is essentially your 5th best starter at this point.
Ownership didn't make him trade for Teoscar Hernadez.
Ownership didn't make him spend 24 Million on Garver.
Ownership didn't make him trade Eugenio Suarez and replace him with Luis Urias
Ownership didn't make him trade for Polanco

He has not used his resources wisely at all. They have four top of the rotation starters that are making a combined 6.3 Million They have a top 10 Bullpen that make a combined 8.4 Million. There opening day payroll was 139 Million which leaves 124 Million for the the offense and 5th starter. Any competent gm could put together a league average offense and find a serviceable 5th starter for 124 Million. Dipoto is not a competent gm.

I agree Captain.

Dipoto has wasted so much money since 2016 on useless players that it can't be blamed on ownership imo.

Even if they decided to give him less rope the last year or two.

I had a post about this before, from 2016-2022, not including the shortened covid season, Dipoto spent $175.2M on bad players, and unfortunately he has continued that trend in 2023 and 2024.

For whatever reason he can't judge talent that will succeed in Seattle when he's actually spending for it (he has success through the farm system and some waiver wire type moves).

Not to mention I think ownership had made more resources available for Dipoto- it was said many times- but he thought he could outsmart the "spend money" crowd.

Yes your hindsight is off the charts. Most of us applauded the 140 OPS+ bat Winker brought and Saurez was a bounce back salary dump.
Polanco, and Ray. I remember a majority of us (vastly so) counted them as good moves.

I can't stand people who look at moves at the time and go "We signed the reigning CY"! Fk, yes! And then a ho-hum 1st year followed by a injury and "The Great Leader~Cap" comes on-line and makes his little gay list and proclaims he is better and smarter and all the trades he would have made would have worked out! I would have signed only guys that would have thrived. "I Cap would have graped Billy B into trading his top 10 hitter to his division rival"! You bet ya. "I am Captain I know who fails and thrives and develops ahead of time I have a set of crystal balls between my legs that I rub and they give me insights into all future events" "I am the Alpha and the Omega, I am Cap, hear me roar."

Cut the Cap!
