You would have to be naïve to believe that a man who was betting daily, numerous bets as much as $20,000 per day NEVER once recouped his massive debts by not backing his team to lose. Whilst there was no evidence produced, he must have been the most disciplined gambler ever to resist that temptation.

I mean if we knew Bazardo was going to throw 3 innings in a game, we wouldn't stick an untraceable $20,000 of forum money on the Mariners to lose that one?

That's why he was never re-instated, there is far more we dont know than we do. And we know a lot.

Interesting point..And it took what, ten years for him to quit lying and admit he bet on the Reds. The situation was always on him. He met with Bud Selig, he was given a path for reinsetatement, but he wouldn't or couldn't follow it. He needed to distance himself from gambling but he never did. I read that after the meeting he headed straight to las Vegas. Which brings up another point, now that MLB has decided to put a team in Las Vegas the issue seems murkier

Opens the door? Didn’t something happen over a hundred years ago that people might have described as “a little bit fishy?” Where there is any money there is always opportunity for corruption. Embracing gambling doesn’t make it any more or less corrupt than in the past.

Funny because I latched on to the Oakland A's. I totally bought into Findley putting mustaches on them. For me, the A's were Hawkeye and Trapper, the Reds were the Evil Empire, and Pete was the epitome. Of course I gave them their due, loved me some Johnny Bench and Joe Morgan. The 1974 WS was one of the greatest events of my life, I'm not exaggerating. They don't make them like that anymore

Exactly why I am happy Bonds isn't in the HOF. If he did steroids but was a good person I would be fine with it but he was a horrible person.

Yeah, all the fishy people were gambling and meddling back before it was legal anyway.

It all reminds me how much I like the movie Eight Men Out. That whole Black Sox scandal changed sports in a big way. Owners started playing players more just to keep them honest.
