They may be able to trade for more bonus pool money. They could also rescind offers to the players they've committed to for January.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Thu Nov 14, 2024 10:46 amI guess the dodgers have the largest bonus pool available. M's are in on Roki Sasaki

So, the word is something like he wants to go to a "smaller market". Let's dream big. What does the signing of Roki do for your offseason plans. We saw how last time Seattle made a great presentation to Ohtani and traded for the most bonus money but the fact that the LAA team had a relationship built with Ohtani and he went in that direction.GL_Storm wrote: ↑Thu Nov 14, 2024 11:12 pmThey may be able to trade for more bonus pool money. I am going to form a "we got Roki" plan. I would appreciate seeing what new directions this might take yours.

Before I make my Roki Re-plan, who the hell do you trade if you get Roki?
1st choice would probably have to be Luis Castillo who is coming off a sub-par 101 ERA+. He is healthy and still has great stuff. I see 30 starts 175 innings about 2 WAR. He is owed 24M X 3 with a vesting option. MLB trade calc. says -30M. Moving him allows you to take on a big salary. Luis has never had a bad year. his worst was his rookie year and that was 170 innings of 97 ERA+. So, my thoughts is that is his floor and as a floor that is pretty darn high. His upside is CY contention all-star level performance.
2. Gilbert he is in arb2 with 3 years of control left. He is coming off his 1st A.S game and he was the leader in innings pitched on the year. I love his ability at 6'6" to extend. He is also the guy that has been in MLB for four years and could be the "Vet' in the rotation to provide leadership. The trade calc. has him at 70M as a valuation, so he should be able to get you back something really good. 65.6 M trade calc.
3. Woo (50.5M), Kirby (111.4M), Miller (50.8M): They all have their merits. They are all pre-arb so part of their value is they are making MLB min and are good and on the ascent.
So, I would argue that Castillo is worth more than his 30M$ value and Kirby is probably worth less than his 111+M dollar value, but these are all assets.

It's Castillo and it's not close.Pharmabro wrote: ↑Fri Nov 15, 2024 7:37 amBefore I make my Roki Re-plan, who the hell do you trade if you get Roki?

Castillo the obvious choice.
Bryce Miller would be next on my list. He had a 4.07 ERA outside of Seattle.

Not with Stanton’s clamped tight wallet they aren’t, he’s the Montgomery Burns of owners. I hate to be the dream killer but it’s not happening.D-train wrote: ↑Wed Nov 13, 2024 5:54 pmDo the Mariners have a shot at signing him?
Sasaki might be as talented as any pitcher to ever come out of Japan, and because he’ll make the league-minimum salary, he has a chance to be the best bargain in MLB for the next several years.
At that price, every MLB team should be interested in a 23-year-old with ace-like upside, and indeed the Mariners are preparing to make a recruiting pitch to Sasaki’s camp when he’s posted, per industry sources.
The Mariners could make a compelling case around their history of success with Japanese pitchers — Kazuhiro Sasaki (2000-03), Shigetoshi Hasegawa (2002-05), Hisashi Iwakuma (2012-2017) and Kikuchi (2019-21) all made at least one MLB All-Star appearance with Seattle — and their recent success of developing young pitchers, notably Logan Gilbert, George Kirby, Bryce Miller and Bryan Woo.

He doesn’t want to play for a Dollar Tree salary?Donn Beach wrote: ↑Wed Nov 13, 2024 9:44 pmSure, beautiful city with a large japanese influence, great pitchers park, an organization known for their pitching development, why would he want to play there

Re: M's are in on Roki Sasaki
He's going to play for a dollar tree salary because those are the rules
Because of Sasaki’s age, he will be classified as an international amateur free agent and be subject to bonus pool limits imposed on MLB teams. That structure will mean his initial MLB contract will be no larger than seven figures in size, and he will be under club control through the 2030 season
Re: M's are in on Roki Sasaki
This is the 2024 International Bonus Pool available, if Sasaki waits until after January 15th the International Bonus Pool resets and they can use the 2025 Bonus pool which the Mariner's have 7ish million.GL_Storm wrote: ↑Thu Nov 14, 2024 11:12 pmThey may be able to trade for more bonus pool money. Sasaki would be foolish to not wait an extra couple of weeks to get 3x more money.

If he waits 2 more years, he can likely get 10 times more money.tehmc wrote: ↑Fri Nov 15, 2024 5:59 pmThis is the 2024 International Bonus Pool available, if Sasaki waits until after January 15th the International Bonus Pool resets and they can use the 2025 Bonus pool which the Mariner's have 7ish million.GL_Storm wrote: ↑Thu Nov 14, 2024 11:12 pmThey may be able to trade for more bonus pool money.
