Yep. He's a scrub. But everyone here loves him for some reason.
I think you are a bit off. Nobody here is saying Soto = Bohm. What some of are looking at is what is a better fit @ 3B?

Josh Rojas 31 RBI, 91 OPS+
vs
Alec Bohm 97 RBI 117 OPS+

And this claim about 75 OPS+ in the 2nd 1/2? (Bohm's last 3 years 101, 107, and 117 OPS+
vs
Rojas in his last 88 games had a .550 OPS

Bohm>Rojas
How does a 6'5" major league hitter not hit for power? Spotrac projects his salary at $8.1 million. Is he worth that? Philly clearly doesn't want to pay him.
His .448 slugging % would have been 3rd on the Mariners last year behind Robles and Raley.

He hit 44 doubles... 4th most in baseball.

He doesn't strike out and he hits for high average.

I'm not sure there's a better bat for for this lineup out there who is within the M's price range.

If Dylan is the UTIL

and Raley is the starting 1B

Then they can add bats at 3B, 2B and DH, but there aren't many available.

Foolish to rule out the 1B bats when Raley is so versatile imo. Same situation they got themselves into with France, except Raley can actually move around.

Just don't understand how they think they can be the only team that doesn't need a MOTO bat or two to make the playoffs..

He is a player on the accent. He does have a strange batting profile for a 6'5" power position. He is a very consistent, .280 hitter who has been making small gains in OBP and slugging over the last three years.
In
2022 walk rate = 3.5% :o It is hard to imagine lower rate
2023 5.3%
2024 5.2%
2022 ISO = .118
2024 ISO = .168

Defense one of the issues that has caused Bohm's WAR to be lower than expected is that from 2021 to 2023 he was at -1.4 to -1.5DWAR every year.

2024 he improved to +0.1 DWAR

He is far from a perfect player, but he is a pretty notable upgrade over Rojas. And I think working under Perry Hill could improve his defense further.

They are already paid for
It's called "sunken cost". The money's gone, and if the player isn't making the team better he needs to be gone too. You literally have to pay a player to not play for you to make the team better sometimes. This was touched on in Moneyball with David Justice.

It's a sunk cost but it's an additional cost to replace them

The real argument is how much will it cost to upgrade them and how much the upgrade will be. That we really don’t know and can only speculate.
