Good news: M's hire Kevin Seitzer as hitting coach

I know nothing about Kevin, but the article says he will report to Edgar. The article also says that Edgar will be involved in S.T. and will be at most of the home games.

Thoughts?

He was a 3B and broke in with an all-star rookie year along with fellow rookie Bo Jackson.

Bo Jackson is 100% in my top 5 athletes of all time.

Pretty much go with the lookout landing article about the hire. Its interesting how long seltzer had been coaching with the Braves, like a decade. They've had a fair amount of success but it went a bit sideways this season so they seem to be going the new voice thing. I'd say it's an old school approach that would jive with Edgar. I'm guessing seltzer probably blames JK for getting him fired, he jinked the team.

That's kinda interesting, that pretty much sums up why hitting coaches get fired.
“It was the hardest season of my life, because guys were trying so hard and couldn’t get going, and I couldn’t get them to (not press),” Seitzer said. “If they can find somebody to get these guys to not try so hard, that needs to be the guy they hire. You can talk about mechanics until the cows come home, but this (struggles this season) was all between the ears.”
Raul loves him some seltzer
.Seitzer advised Ibañez to shorten his stroke, not swing as hard as normal and to aim to line the ball the other way, in the direction of the shortstop, on every pitch...“Seitzer’s voice is still with me,” said Ibañez. “It’ll be with me every time I step up to the plate.”
Magallanes is a mental approach guy
.As for Magallanes, he brings a sports psychology-influenced approach (he has a master’s in that area) that harmonizes well with the Mariners’ emphasis on mental skills. Happily for those of us who are Frequently Online, he’s a frequent guest on podcasts and posts on Instagram (@magallanesbobby), where you can learn more about his hitting philosophy.

.295 career batting average, the 421st highest ranked player of all time.

.780 career OPS, 876th all time.

113 career wRC+, 813th all time (two spots above Mitch Haniger.......)

He has the same career batting average as John Olerud, Albert Belle, Barry Larkin, Alex Rodriguez. A point higher than Joey Votto, Frank Robinson, and Mookie Betts.

His career OPS is equal to Byron Buxton and Kendry Morales.

Seems like the right kind of guy you want telling your players how to hit imo.

His straight forward down to earth communication style seems a lot better than World Salad Guy.

If he can somehow convince Julio to do these things, he'll be worth his weight in gold.

And on the other hand, Raul was one of the streakiest hitters imaginable

Quite the contrast between the M's and Braves.

Seems we got a good hitting coach. I can't believe the Braves fired him after one bad season. They had so many good ones with him including a WS title. We kept DeHart for 5 bad seasons. Crazy.
