Seems the "Experts" are finally clueing into the fact that Harry Ford was not worth a 1st round pick about 3 years after I did. If Emerson doesn't start hitting HRs at least 1 per 30 PAs he will endure the same fate.
Sodo puts out some decent content but there are currently a couple of examples of how clueless they are. They think Ford dropping out of the top 100 will impact what the M's do with him like they had no idea and they need the prospect rankings to inform their decisions. Jerry is dumb but not that dumb. The other is a piece on us signing Alonso. lol

yeah, Arroyo is super intriguing. All the major evaluators overlooked the kid. All he does is rake with big time pop you didn't see coming from his frame.
This is why I can't believe how people pour over scouting reports and prospect lists like they are Gospel. And obsess on where guys were drafted vs. production. They over look the Arroyo's and keep propping up the JKs and Fords until they look like complete idiots.

Sleeper 2nd base candidate; don't know if he's been talked about. He's my sleeper going into spring training.

5'8" left hand hitting, 2B/3B Nick Dunn has no MLB experience and he'll be 28 on January 29th so something has prevented him from getting the call up while in the Cardinal's org. Nolan Gorman has blocked him but Gorman K's a shit-ton and had a down season. However he has power and Dunn has not.

Dunn has put up OPS of .855 and .842 the last two milb seasons. He k's minimally and BB's almost more than he k's. He appears to be an on-base savant! Comparing him with the 5'7" RH batting Ryan Bliss, they had similar AAA seasons. Bliss had an .833 OPS and has the 50 SB wheels, which Dunn seems to have no larcenous tendencies.

I hope both are invited to spring training and get an opportunity.

Maybe Dipoto believes 2B is covered with DMo, Solano, Bliss, Dunn, Mastrobuoni et al, and thinks 2B (and 3B-Shenton?) is NOT a $$$$$ trade/free agent need.
~
Just think: 5'8" Dunn at 3B, 5'7" Bliss at 2B and 5'8" DonSo at 1B, the M's might have the Smurfyest infield in MLB history. If the 5'8" Samad Taylor passes thru waivers, well, that's just a 'small' bonus. Down on the farm, middle/utility infielders Michael Arroyo is 5'8" Leo Rivas is 5'8", Brock Rodden is 5'7".
~
I miss the original Smurfette, 5'8" (exaggerated an inch or 3) Chone Figgins as much as the the next poster here  , but geez, is this the next audition site of Munchkins for the Wizard of Oz reboot?
~
My main reason for this oddball, insulting, height-challenged rant is that I hope 6'4" Luke Raley is the main 1st baseman. I bristled at the thought of FA signee, 5'8" Donovan Solano, getting 1B play. That extra 12 inches of reach and 12" of height will potentially make numerous out differences per game.
~
There, I'm Dunn.
Nice. I can't believe Memphis dumped him. Dude deserves a shot especially with the Walk K ratios.

I like Dunn, statistically. I have no idea about him otherwise. But I wouldn't mind seeing him get a chance.

Reason # 5700 why the prospect experts are full of shit.

Colt Emerson. 19 years 186 days old .263 .769 OPS 4 HRs in 398 PAs
16. Colt Emerson, SS
Baseball America notes: “If he can add more power, he’ll move into the game’s upper echelon.”

Jude’s analysis: The 22nd pick of the 2023 draft, Emerson looks like a steal for Seattle. Still just 19 years old, he has a smooth left-handed swing and a solid 6-foot, 205-pound frame. Emerson is expected to return to High-A Everett to open the 2025 season, but he should arrive at Class AA Arkansas at some point this summer — and some scouts project him as a Top 5 prospect by this time next year.
Michael Arroyo (JRam is my comp.) 20 years 80 days old only about 9 months older than Colt. .285 .910 OPS 23 HRs in 592 PAs

77. Michael Arroyo, 2B
Baseball America notes: “Arroyo could become the next Colombian MLB star. His 23 home runs in 2024 were tied for most by a teenager in MiLB. His bat is more advanced than his glove, but he should be able to stick at second base while hitting for average, getting on base and hitting 15-20 home runs.

They're not full of shit, dt. Evaluating young talent is all about projection. Why don't you think Colt Emerson will grow into more power? Every fucking scout believes he will.

btw, Emerson was absolutely crushing the ball in the AFL

Because I have a brain which I use for more than parroting what others say. If he adjusts his swing to generate more loft it likely hurts his BA/OBP.

I was right about JK and Harry and all the experts were wrong weren't they.

Harry looks like a very good bet to be a quality major leaguer.
