This probably isn't inflation adjusted though.

Another day, another day of nothing.
31 days until game #1 of Spring.
Jerry is making me think he going to punt the off season and make no major improvement.

That's exactly what is happening. Its like we literally have less than last year to spend this year. Alonso can be had for peanuts now off what he could have cost and we have no interest. Bregman could probably be had for less also - zero interest. It sounds like we are going to wait another few weeks and dumpster dive for the leftover drivel. This team is an embarrassment - if they weren't so bent on making a little bit of $ they should just sell everyone and watch prospects for 50mill/year total team salary. Next offseason that is exactly what needs to start happening as none of our regulars are going to sign extensions for a team that has no desire to win a WS.

Looks like 3.5B in 2001, That that would be 6.1B at the end of 2023 but the are almost double that. Reminds me of the famous Mark Twain Quote.

But I think you would see it peaking around 2018-2019 with revenue increases since that time mostly coming from higher prices.

Completely agree. And Castillo is a declining asset making 20+ million per year, and for a team that's as frugal as the Mariners, that's a big piece of the overall payroll. Just dumb that the M's didn't take that deal.Pharmabro wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2025 5:22 amI think it was because the Redsox wanted to attach Yoshida's 18.6M X3 years and there is a reason he has been DH. I read where Yoshida wants to play in the outfield and there is the potential for a sulking miffed player here.TraderGary wrote: ↑Mon Jan 20, 2025 8:20 pmBecause who would want a player who hits to all fields? They'd rather have a player who's pull happy and strikes out at a 30%+ rate. How the fuck does Dipoto still have a job?
That said I would probably still do the deal. He still save 5.5M/year with Castillo. and you gain two useful parts. There is no guarantee that Robles repeats his 2024 Mariner performance. So, having Raley, Yoshida, Moore, etc as potential injury/[erformance replacements is a good thing. I would have liked any number of "plans" that we made up about addressing areas of weakness on the team better than what we got so far but this addition would have me feeling much better and we would have somewhere around 20 million to fix 3rd base.
1. Robles RF
2. JRod CF
3. Cal# C
4. Randy LF
5. Raley* DH/1B
6. Shenton/Solano 3B
7. Casas* 1B/DH
8. Moore/2B
9. JP* SS
With 18.6M invested into Yoshida for the roll of potentially being a lefty platoon partner along with Raley and potentially somewhere around 3rd/4th/5th/ 6th OF? It is kinda a redundant fit with a big upgrade to 2nd or 3rd base needed.
He has a split vs RHP of .300 .351 .459 .810 for his career, and a .669 OPS vs LHP.

A little nugget from the Kramer article on MLB yesterday.
He said the M's were trying to land Nate Lowe from the Rangers. First I had heard that... although it's not surprising given the need at 1B. The Rangers got a high-peripheral low-performing (-0.2 bWAR in '24) reliever for him back.
Kramer says the Rangers were cautious about trading him to the M's due to it being interdivision but they really couldn't beat that offer to make it worth their while lol?
